Question for McConklin -- SAT/ ACT

Hi -- I understand that UR would like students to submit all SAT 1 scores so that the SAT will be superscored. However, if a student takes the SAT twice, and scores higher in all sections on one test date, is the student still required to submit results from both SAT 1 test dates?

Also, if a student takes both the ACT and the SAT, and scores significantly better on the ACT, can she just submit the ACT and not send the SAT 1 results at all?

Finally, it is my understanding from the UR website that Rochester genuinely doesn't care whether a students submits ACT or SAT test results. However, there is a strong bias in our East Coast high school towards the SAT -- the school isn't even an ACT test site. Am I correct that it is fine from Rochester's perspective if an East Coast student decides to take just the ACT, and not the SAT 1?

Thanks so much.

I’ll admit that I have trouble sometimes keeping up with the College Board, at least with regard to their test score submission policies, but…

From our perspective, a student should submit any and all scores that they wish to submit. We only require one reported test score, be it the SAT or the ACT.

If a student wants to submit only the higher of two SAT tests, that is perfectly acceptable. If the student would prefer to submit only the ACT, that is perfectly acceptable as well. We do not value one test over the other, in spite of the east coast SAT bias. I am an east coast native that performed better on the ACT myself.

Thanks so much!

You are welcome!
