Question for STRIDE/Zollman scholarship recipients in recent years

First of all, CONGRATS! What an amazing honor at an incredible college.

If you don’t mind, could you share your stats? Did you have outstanding extracurriculars, or is there something that you think really boosted your application to make you a candidate for the scholarship?

Thanks!

D had 3.85 (UW) gpa, ACT 33, 3 APs, orchestra officer, class VP, state VP for state association of student councils, went to nationals for forensics, coached middle school forensics students, played violin for church services, and was in ballet academy for medium sized city ballet company until an injury “finished” her dancing days. Also don’t know if
This matters but D is half Asian and half Caucasian.

D did not accept the admission offer at Smith but was offered the STRIDE with a 4.7W/2070/31, top 3% of class, IB Diploma. Girl Scout Gold Award, Sr. Class VP…

Someone at Smith told me that submitting SAT/ACT scores helps a lot in getting the STRIDE scholarship. Take with a grain of salt b/c I’m not sure how accurate her info is, but perhaps something to keep in mind.

D had 2200 SAT, 7 AP s, good extracurriculars and leadership positions. She received an Early Write. She was hoping for a Stride, but it never materialized. She did receive other merit though ($10 000 per year, no financial aid). With a Stride she would have attended for sure (over Wellesley where she was also accepted). She has now decided to attend UCLA

Her UW GPA was 4

I’ve heard a lot of those who are offered STRIDE are people who do not need much financial assistance…

^My D was awarded the STRIDE but did not attend because she wasn’t offered enough financial aid to make the school affordable. Her early write was a huge surprise because, although it was a match school for her, we really didn’t consider her stats in their higher range at all. She was, in fact, offered a “trial year” after turning down the acceptance. Not sure what that is because she had already deposited with Skidmore who met our financial needs.

D is salutatorian/2230/3.95UW/4.6something W/IB diploma candidate - 4 HLs, 2 SLs, some college courses at local community college, prestigious internship at a major science lab, multiple recommendations, officer of various clubs, national awards in art and 1 in literature. got early write plus Stride.
