Question for Upperclassmen!!

I was wondering where you would recommend living Freshmen year, and what each dorm is like?

Honestly, I don’t think there are any bad dorms at Emory. For freshmen, the “theme” dorms are really nice and new (Few, Evans, and New Turman). Also, several new freshman dorms are under construction right now, and I believe that the plan is to have them ready for the class of 2014 in the fall, so I imagine that those dorms will be very very nice.

What are theme dorms?

Either citizenship or living green. You have to fill out a separate application for those though.

For the freshman of '14, any dorm you get is great because they’re all new. You’ll either get Few, Evans, Turman or the unnamed new dorm they’re building right now. I’m not sure what’s happening to Harris though. It’ll probably be a freshman dorm which in that case, you’ll get a 4/5 chance of getting one of the newer dorms. For some reason, Harris has the darkest rooms/halls but it’s known as the most social dorm.

At the end of this school year, they’re tearing down 2 old freshman dorms, converting 1 to a sophomore dorm and converting another one to an office building.

Since it’s 2 AM and I can’t sleep, I’ll give you the lowdown of each of the dorms you’ll probably get next year:

Few/Evans (aka Fevans): These dorms are right next to each other and are really similar. They overlook the field where concerts and big events are held so you’ll get a great view! It’s also really close to the DUC (where you’ll be eating) but far from classes and the library since Fevans is on the edge of campus. Fevans is also Living Green themed but I haven’t heard anything about what you do for that…

New Turman: I’ve always thought the location was kind of weird. It’s behind the DUC but close to the bus stop. You get a flat screen TV on the first floor lounge which is the only dorm that has that. The rooms are pretty big like Fevans which is a plus. It’s also Citizenship themed.

the new dorm they’re constructing: Also behind the DUC and right next to New Turman. It’s fairly close to the train tracks, sooo you’ll be hearing the train frequently. Its location is far from classes and the library but close to the DUC and bus stop.
