My friend is considering applying to BS next year. Her parents both went to BS, but her brother did not. Her brother will be in college when she starts attending. She’s worried about her parents going crazy over not having their daughter at home. What do you think?
How can anyone but the parents in question answer this?
It is common for the youngest to feel like the parents will not be able to handle life without their supervision (whether BS or College) when they leave. They can feel very responsible for being the focal point, since they are the last child.
Believe me, life does go on, whether she stays at home or not. It has been this way for time immemorial. Sometimes life even improves for the parents! (yes, really!). They will survive when she is not the center of their home’s universe.
If not, well, I’m sure she can find an insane asylum somewhere that will take them.
When my only daughter came back from her 3 weeks Summer camp, I felt that she came back a tad bit too early.
