Hello my name is Jennifer and I am new to this post group. I received a guaranteed offer of appointment to the Naval Academy back in early November. It stated that the offer was contingent upon completing the left admission requirements...which at that point was receiving a nomination. I received my nomination from my state senator late November and on the Candidate Information site, Annapolis received the nomination on Dec. 21, 2004. Does anyone know when I would be mostly likely to receive the official appointment to Annapolis, now that the Academy has received this final admission requirement?

I would suspect sometime this month. Remember, the Academy was on vacation for the holidays, too. I seems that many others with LOA got their appointments just before the break, and I would believe that the admissions office is processing the remainder of LOA appointments at this point.

Those who have nominations, and did not receive a LOA, if last year is a good reference, begin to hear from mid-February through mid-April. As declines of appointments by candidates are received by the Academy, it creates openings for others. Thus, a few heard as late as May, with several notifications of "waitlisted" individuals changing into appointments in June, (and last year, even July).

Thank you. However, now I have another question. Today I received a letter from the Academy stating that I had received a nomination and that now I was eligible to compete for an appointment. It then reminds candidates that they must still qualify scholastically, medically, and physically to be considered for an appointment. However, I am now a bit curious, because in November I received the offer of appointment and the only requirement I was missing was the congressional nomination. Therefore, is this just simply a letter to inform me that the Academy has received the nomination?

That's what I'm not completely sure about.
The letter stated this:
"We are pleased to advise you that the Admission Board has found you qualified to compete for admission to the U.S. Naval Academy with the Class of 2009. You are guaranteed an offer of appointment if your remaining admission requirements are completed. You should be proud of your accomplisments...
Please remember, however, that your guaranteed offer of appointment is contingent upon completing all of your remaining admissions requirements. You must complete the following marked requirements by 1 March 2005 or this offer is no longer valid: Nomination
Jennifer we wish you succes in the prompt completion of your remaining requirements for admission and look forward to welcoming you as a member of the Brigade of Midshipmen.
I was convinced this was a letter of assurance because it state that I have a guaranteed offer of appointment if I got a nomination. However, now I'm not sure where I actually stand.

I'm so glad to hear that! My parents don't understand the process, primarily because their native language isn't English, so I'm basically on my own to figure things out and look for outside resources. I tried contacting my BGO, but I guess he's still on vacation because he never responded to me frequent emails and phone calls. Then once I came across this site, I immediately took advantage of the opportunity of possibly getting questions answered. Thank you so much for the support.

FlyChic, the SAME thing has happened to me. Even to the exact dates! I'm a little worried as to what the letter we received today means...is the LOA revoked or something? Hopefully not. Let's just cross our fingers!

Hey. I got those exact letters as well. I am positive all it means is that you have a LOA and have a nomination. Nothing has happened to the status of your app because the second letter sent was only a form letter saying that Navy has recieved your nomination. They probably just don't take out the extra info depending on your app status. Remember that only 200 applicants get LOAs and there are probably upwards of 8,000 who recieve nominations. It would be pointless to change the letter for every candidate.

FLYCHIC: I'd say you are in for sure. The letter you got about your nominations was just a stock computer-generated letter. I got the exact same thing today. (Actually they made a mistake and sent me the same letter twice, congratulating me on receiving a nomination from the same senator; but still haven't sent anything about my nomination from the other 2 people) I think you're in for sure and they haven't sent the paperwork. I have already gotten my offer of appointment and the paper I got today says "You are now eligible to compete for an appointment to the Class of 2009."

Foremoest, congratulations Tyleroar, it must feel great to know this early! Twoofme and gopherkitty, atleast, we know we are not alone trying to figure out what all these letters actually mean. I'm hoping for the best!

Well... I heard 20% of the class got LOAs in the past (I think that was last years numbers) so that would be 200. Sorry about those nomination numbers btw I didn't look them up.
