Question on defer

I plan on doing some things.
I want to submit an extra rec. and an essay
However how Do I submit the extra rec.? Can I just use the form from the site?

Also for the essay. How would I go about sending that? Also my essay should be about why I really want to go to mit, right? Or can I do what I want.

Disclaimer: The following is my personal opinion and based on my experience only. Do not take it seriously.

For your extra rec, ask your teacher to submit a letter or use one of the forms. It doesn't matter much. They'll read it.

About the essay, I wouldn't submit one unless it's much higher quality than your EA ones. And don't write about why you want to go to MIT. They're a good school. They're rich. They've got good kids and good profs. They have nice dorms. They have good labs. You like the culture there. You like learning there. You like how it looks. You like how they fund research. You like the atmosphere...I mean really, they've heard it all. Write about you instead. Write about why you would be good for them, not why they would be good for you.

Hey thanks, that answer helped me too.

Anything that you need to mail should be mailed to
MIT Undergraduate Admissions
77 Massachusetts Avenue, Room 3-108
Cambridge, MA 02139

If you send anything extra, it should say something about you other than what's already been presented in the application.

Hey, what if I recieved a few new prizes or awards? How do I transmit that to MIT? I emailed them but they just said "here's the address to mail stuff to."

Please pm if you know the way, or email me, in case I don't check the forums again for a while.

Mollie could I send a rec. with evaluation A or B form or would the teacher have to send in their own type? Same with essay. I can just send that to the mail address, right? Could I Just type it on wordpad or so mething and mail it in like that? Anyhow I plan on visiting MIT in the imminent future so I am going to write about that and probably send it to them after the visit.

Um, guys, I know you grew up in the digital age and everything, but the postal mail is also an efficient and useful way to send messages. :)

Yes, you can just type things that you want MIT to know and print them off and mail them in.

Also, keep an eye on the blogs. One of the admissions officers (usually Matt) will write an entry with advice for deferred students in the next couple of weeks.

Haha. Awards are good - I banked on that. I thought making USAMO would put me in, but I did it too late, and I was WL til June and tossed out. But from others' experience, awards are def good. Essays - I dunno. Do it early.

Cool thanks mootmon for pming me.
