Do colleges want me to be great at one things rather than participating in a lot of things?
I also heard from other sources that colleges want students to be versatile, great at more than 2 things.
So which one is true?

they tend to prefer students who are focused on something; 2 main ECs would probably look better than one, especially if they were in the same general area that you’re showing a passion for. for example if music is you thing, being president of your school chorus would be better than just being in chorus and a bunch of random ECs, but the best would be to be president of chorus and a section leader in band. the main thing they’re looking for is proof that you have interests and you’re not just joining a bunch of clubs to impress colleges.
