Question on ED

Hi! Okay, so I’m applying ED to Brown, and I know that’s binding, but… my dad just called and said that while he was filling out a form, there was something that said I was allowed to apply to other schools as well - just not any EARLY apps. I know that the letters would be coming in mid-December, but… Does that mean I can, for instance, turn in my application to Georgetown and Cornell before I get notified of my acceptance/rejection?

“While pursuing admission under an Early Decision plan, students may apply to other institutions, but may have only one Early Decision application pending at any time. Should a student who applies for financial aid not be offered an award that makes attendance possible, the student may decline the offer of admission and be released from the Early Decision commitment”

If I don’t get enough financial aid, there is a large chance that i’ll have to decline the offer, so it would be nice to have submitted my other college applications before December 31st…

Thank you!

My understanding is that what you are describing is allowed

Early Decision applicants will hear back by early/mid Dec, so what is most applicable would be to start or have finished those other apps, but don’t actually apply until you hear from Brown. If you get in and have appropriate financial aid, then you won’t have to finish the rest or spend the application money. You won’t hear from Cornell or Georgetown until after the time you have to commit to ED at Brown if accepted so you really won’t be able to compare financial aid packages from them. Comparing aid for ED works only for early notification or rolling schools. Of course you can decide that Brown’s aid is just not enough and 1. appeal or 2. decline and apply other places. Do use Brown’s pre aid calculator to get a ball park idea. If you really think you are going to need to compare aid packages after doing that, then you should be applying regular decision instead.

Thank you!
