I'm an international applying for the F-1 student visa and I have also submitted my application for Freshman Edge this summer. So on the NIF cover page, it states that I need to attach "summer session proof of enrollment" along with my other financial documents. Now all I've gotten after applying for FE is a simple email stating:

"Thank you for applying to the Freshman Edge program at UC Berkeley.
Please read this page carefully and print for your records.

Your Summer Sessions Application ID is 14000XXXXX."

along with a bunch of useful links. It does not even have my name or student ID on it, so is it even acceptable as proof of enrollment? If not, what should I include then for my summer session proof of enrollment? I need to submit these documents asap if I want to get my visa ready before july so, would be great if someone can help :D

I know right, I have not even received my welcome letter from Berkeley yet… -_-

I’m thinking that I might have to wait for them to update my summer class schedule on bearfacts, print that out and mail it to the IO as the proof of summer enrollment. It’s so inconvenient for me to call them too since their open hours are like midnight to 7am in the morning in GMT+8.

Oh on the NIF cover page, there is this line called “Delivery Method: FedEx Prepaid (Summer)”. Does that mean they want me to FedEx my documents to them?

Honestly, when in doubt, your best solution is to email the International Office for a definitive answer…policies may well change over time and few of us here know the in and outs of US customs/immigration folk

They take ages to respond to emails from experience, and yup I emailed them about this yesterday. So I’ll just camp out and try calling their office tonight.

I was just hoping to catch a quicker answer from here. If that kind soul in CC had not taught me to put all 9s under SSN for my Freshman Edge app, I would still be waiting for some sort of reply from them about it (been a week lols).

Okay, I just managed to get through to them. They said that I must print out my summer class schedule as the proof of enrollment, which means I have to wait another 3-4 more business days for Bear Facts to update my class schedule urgh. And they “highly recommend” that all documents be sent using FedEx.

I’m in deep trouble if I can’t get my visa down before july ._.

“Highly recommend” = do it. Also, calling gets a much quicker and better response.

I wouldn’t worry about getting your visa before july. You should be able to get everything to them by the end of April. Bug them to send your I-20 to you by express mail or something. If I recall correctly, there’s usually a one-month wait between you signing up for an appointment at the embassy and the actual appointment. But you get your visa within 5 working days after that, so it’s pretty quick.

…but I was wondering if someone can help me!

Can someone tell me what the NIF form looks like and what questions it has in it??

I am an admitted student at Cal, but I am NOT an international student (my situation is a little bit unique). However, Berkeley says I need to fill out this form called the NIF.

…but I thought I’d ask

I am a community college transfer student, and am married to a US citizen (we’ve been married for over 13 years and lived and worked in california all that time). Due to some minor complications in our immigration case, it is still pending (yes, after all these years), but the USCIS has always renewed my work authorization and my case is officially “pending” which makes me eligible for CA resident tuition, but not financial aid.

Berkeley says even if one’s application for permanent residency is pending they still need to fill out this NIF. That’s why I wanted to know what this form is all about and why I need to fill it, since I’m unable to access this form for a few days it seems, until my info is updated in their system.

Also, I don’t need any assistance from Berkeley regarding any visa issues. I’m LEGALLY authorized to live and work in the U.S. by virtue of my pending “adjustment of status” case based on my wife being a U.S. citizen.

The NIF is an online application form that is a breeze to fill in. It has several small sections which asks for your bio, personal details, VISA category (this probably won’t apply to you) and the total funds you have available for your education at Berkeley.

This is from the International Office website:

Hope you have a better idea of what to expect for the NIF :)
