As an international student entering UMich this August, I've sent my financial resource statement, bank statements and a passport page to UMich a month ago, yet I have not heard back about obtaining my I-20 to process my F-1 student visa. My friends who have sent the documents around the same time as I did have almost all heard back, so I'm worried that my documents were forgotten, or will not be processed in time for the visa application.

I've emailed the international office to ask about this, but was redirected to the Office of Undergraduate Admission. When asked about the status of my I-20, the Office of Undergraduate Admission did not answer my question but gave me an automatically-generated response that goes along the line of "Thanks for your interest in UMich. To apply, please click link".

Does anyone know when's the latest date to apply for an F-1 student visa, and what should I do to ensure I can obtain my I-20 as soon as possible?

did you pick the way to get your I-20? There are 2 ways, one is the regular mail for free, which is very very slow and the other is use express delivery. I chose the express delivery so I got my I -20 within a week. So maybe you should choose the method or the school had used regular mail. Don’t worry, just contact admission office and international center.

GoBlue81 - I’ve called the undergraduate admissions office and they said my documents seem fine on their screen, but they haven’t got around to process the documents since early May, so I’ll have to wait for 2 more weeks to get a notification. Hopefully I hear back really soon, because I was honestly quite annoyed when they’ve been delaying it for so long, when they’ve promised every student should expect to receive the I-20 within 2 or 3 weeks after submitting the documents.

pennycakes - The problem is that my I-20 is not yet ready, so I haven’t even got the email that offers me the options of mailing my I-20. All I can do now is to wait for them to process my documents and notify me when my I-20 is ready, I just hope they can speed up the process a bit since it’s been a month and a half ago that I sent my documents.

Same here, but my case is worse I guess.
I sent the documents to them by email, but the I-20 is not ready even after 3 weeks, they even sent me a reminder regarding I-20…
I guess something went wrong, so I faxed and sent them the documents again by email.

wen828 - I got a reminder email to send in my documents too and my I-20 isn’t ready after more than 3 weeks. We seem to be in the same boat, let’s just hope the officer speeds up their work a bit!

paperstars123, carefully re-read the e-mail. It says AT LEAST 3 weeks. And they send that reminder e-mail automatically and periodically, whether they received your documents or not. The reminder e-mail also says that if you already sent your documents just ignore the e-mail. Don’t worry.
