The Rice Supplement on Common App, under "What contacts have you had with Rice?" asks about on campus activities. (like information session, tour, lunch visit, etc).

My older sibling attended Rice for undergrad, and I have stayed with my sibling in their dorm overnight and ate meals with them at Rice on many occasions. However, none of this was "official," meaning that I didn't sign up online on the Rice website. Should I/can I still check the "Overnight Visit" and "Lunch Visit" boxes on the supplement? Should I put it under "other" instead? Or would it be best to just not mention this at all...?

For sure mention it! Does other give you space to elaborate? If so, choose that option and summarize what you did (Stayed overnight with older sibling). Overnight Visit and Lunch Visit technically refer to an official admissions program. You’ve definitely had contacts with Rice, so whatever you do make sure you check something.

There IS an “other” box; there isn’t enough room to elaborate much, but I can fit in “Overnight stay with sibling.”

The thing I’m a little worried about now is that it asks for the date and there’s only room enough for one. I’ve checked off “Campus Tour” and “Information Session” because I went to one this past summer so I put THAT date, but staying with my sibling was years beforehand.

Don’t stress too much about that date. In the grand scheme of your entire application, that’s really trivial. But you are probably right to put the one you put since they would have a record of you visiting that day, if someone bothered to check.

Good luck!

ahhh, thank you so much for your help! :)
