My D was accepted to Brandeis as a JBS, Justice Brandeis Scholar, and it’s tough to find info on the school’s website about it. Does anyone know if the Justice Brandeis Scholars have a community among the students, for example, do they have programs together?
My son got this, too. There isn’t anything on the website, but it’s my impression that it’s just a name for a scholarship. I don’t think Brandeis has the equivalent of an Honors College or Honors Program. There is a reception for JBS on April 18, and we plan to attend. If I find out anything, I’ll post it then.
I also got this and think it is a pure merit scholarship. It was a generous award.
@Awesomekidsmom, How was the JBS reception?
It was nice - the food was good. But, to be honest, it was really just an opportunity for the admissions office to try to sell the school. As we suspected, there isn’t a special “honors college” program or anything like that associated with it.
They showcased some of their most successful students, and had one of them speak. They also had several current students and admissions staff mingling with the crowd and talking to the students. It’s always enjoyable to listen to people tell you what an incredibly talented group your kid is in, but I wouldn’t have made a long distance trip just to attend. However, the accepted students day on Sunday was very useful. There were a lot of opportunities to talk to current students and professors. One of my son’s friends made the decision to commit that day (you get a Brandeis beach towel - not bad for 63K). I’d say there’s a 90% chance my son will commit by the end of the week.
@Awesomekidsmom : Congrats. The decision I made 35 years ago to attend Brandeis is the single best decision I’ve ever made.
@soze - Thanks! We sent the deposit in yesterday. He did an overnight following accepted students day, and felt he’d “found his people.”
