Question regarding Gpa transfer

Im kind of in a bit of a conundrum.Im currently in community college with the hopes of transferring to university in a couple of semesters. Up until now , i was attending two community colleges. I had to leave one of them due to progress dismissal with a gpa of 2.50. At my other college , i am currently sitting on a 3.8 gpa. I know that my former gpa ( 2.50) from the college i left is going to bring down my overall gpa when I want to transfer , and i was thinking about attending another college prior to transferring to the 4 year in hopes of getting a good gpa there in order to mitigate the 2.50 somewhat.

I need some sound advice , thanks.

Does the 2.50 gpa include any Ds or Fs?

Many community colleges have an academic renewal and/or academic forgiveness policy. Depending on the specific school’s policy, it will allow the removal of Ds and Fs up to a certain amount of units from your GPA calculation or remove entire semesters’ worth of grades (regardless of what letter grade they are). Check the policy at your college.

Thank you for your response.

The 2.50 includes a “D”. The college does have a academic renewal policy but its contingent only on you improving considerably since having gotten the bad grade and as I said in the op I have since left that particular college. This is why im wondering if it would just be better if i enroll in another college to take some classes and get a good gpa there to help negate the 2.50 when it comes to calculating my entire gpa between the three colleges when its time to transfer to University.

Does the policy specifically state that you must be taking classes at that particular college?

Some community colleges will take into consideration an improved GPA, even if the courses were taken at a different college.

Correct me if I am wrong, but are you worried that when you apply to transfer, the colleges will simply see a 2.50 at one college and a 3.8 at another college?

When you apply to transfer, you will list out individual courses and the grades you received in them - your application will not be based solely on a single number (or numbers).

Does the third college have classes that you need in order to transfer? Would it not be possible to take the classes at the college you’re currently at?

I am a confused as to why a third college is needed.

I asked above if you’re worried about how colleges will view the GPA, but I’ve reread your post and see you have stated that you are aware that all your courses will be used to calculate a GPA.

Have you used a GPA calculator to see how many units you would need to raise your GPA to your liking?

That’s an interesting bit about how some community colleges will take course performance at other colleges in consideration for improved gpa , ill make sure to look into that.
Im worried that the 2.50 will bring down my “weighted average” overall gpa when i transfer. I kind of did the calculations and the 2.50 brings the 3.8 does considerably, making me less competitive. Or maybe im just dont fully understand the transfer process and how your overall gpa is calculated when you are transferring from more than one community college to a university?

Yes, definitely look into it.

Have you visited the transfer center or made an appointment with an academic counselor?
I think they’ll be able to offer you useful information and offer you guidance on how best to proceed.
