I attended a four year university and am now attending a community college. I'm applying for transfer soon and had a couple questions. When the university I'm applying to takes a look at my gpa will they combine the previous university and community college grades together to come up with a gpa? I retook a class I have done poorly in at the previous university at the community college but I have another I want to retake but it doesn't exist at the community college is there anything I can do about that? I talked to couple people who are in my situation who went to a four year university before leaving their school and going to a community college and they said that they got a evaluation of their classes they took at the four year university at their community college and the community college ended up giving them the grade and credit for only the classes that they would accept at the community college. Is there any truth to this?

The university you’re hoping to apply to will compute their transferrable GPA (which ever courses that you have taken which are transferrable to their school). So, yes they will compute both GPA’s from your four year university and community college GPA to come up with a combined GPA.

Wow, you cannot be able to retake courses you’ve done poorly at your four year university and take them at a community college! The college you are looking to transfer to will not let you do duplicate units (which you have just done), I really don’t know how they will compute your GPA now. This is a really big no-no because your retake will not replace your previous course grade.

As for the evaluation grade and credit, it really depends on which kind of grade they recieved for the course. Some schools tend to do this if they believe that the course subject was not necessarily the same. In this case an evaluation/test will be given and graded to determine if the course will be given transfer credit.
