I just got my October score and it's 740CR 790M 670W.. and my parents are freaking out because for some reason they think colleges value writing section with utmost importance over the other two sections, but I think it should actually be opposite since writing is new this year and colleges aren't quite sure what to do with it. Am I right?

PS- I despise subjective grading. I thought my essay had decent argument and support, but it wasn't long, which is probably why i got graded down.

I suppose that Georgetown is an extreme counter-example, but I don't know of ANY colleges that have said that Writing will be the most important section.

Some care some dont. Depends on your college mainly. Like for all my schools they are like "yeah we will take a look but we know it is bs" (not their exact wording duh).

Most colleges are actually in a wait-and-see-and-research mode with the Writing this year. They mostly require it, but many schools will not use it at all. Instead, they will evaluate how well it predicts student performance at their school. I don't think there is a single school that would weight it MORE heavily than their traditional stand-by's -- M & V. There are some schools where it will receive equal weight.
