If you are at all interested in playing baseball at HC you should be talking to the coach. If you would add to the HC baseball program that would be a plus for your application.

There was a series of articles in the NYTimes about athletic recruiting and admissions at Division III schools that featured an in-depth look at Haverford. It is a worthwhile read if you can find it on the NYTimes website or on the Haverford site.

The bottom line that I remember is that for an applicant who has academic qualifications in the right range, which it seems that you do, the support of a coach can be very positive. It does depend on how you rank relative to other potential baseball players. Coaches will use code words like: "You'll definitely play," "You'll definitely start," or "You'll start your freshman year." Obviously an applicant who the coach thinks will be a starter on the team from day one will get more support than an applicant who will make the team but may not be a starter. It also depends on the position you play and whether that is a hole the coach is looking to fill.

So if Haverford is your top choice, or one of your top choices, I would recommend another conversation with the coach, feeling him out for how much of a contribution he thinks you would make to the team. It will also help you if you can honestly say that you think you would accept an admissions offer from Haverford.

If you havn't already visited the school, try arranging a baseball overnight. Have you sent video to Coach Beccaria? Maybe your high school coach can
call and speak with him.
