Questions about Admit Weekend

I thought we needed a thread for questions about Admit Weekend in April... The only info I have gotten about the weekend was in the acceptance packet, so if anyone knows anything else, please share.

Ok, first question:

current students - do most people have a parent with them for Admit weekend, or do a lot of people go by themselves?

class of 2010 - are your parents going?

mine aren't... but it's more of a logistical thing (live in WA)

Now... parents should go to move-in :)

I'm in WA too, and my parents aren't going.
I hope it's true that they fly you down.

I live in KY - my parents are thinking the same thing. Do they really pay for the flight?

i think u get a letter in ur package saying if they pay for the flight or not

look on the right hand side of the admit folder and find the very last page... in the back of all of them

if it says "travel grant" or w/e you get a free flight!

I've moved around my papares a lot........it is supposed to be on the page that says "Stanford University" "Important Dates to Note"?

How do they choose who gets the travel grant?

umm...my parents are coming because we live like an hour away

i don't know how they choose who gets the travel grant, but in my packet it was there.

i'm not sure if it's a selective thing, or if everybody gets it.

I didn't get it, and I'm not sure why. I live a decent ways away, and I'm already getting some money in need-based scholarship from Stanford.

"umm...my parents are coming because we live like an hour away"

haha, we live like 40 minutes away! I may just head up to Stanford after my CC physics class and take the train.

i live in socal, and i got a grant
im pretty low income, so i think thats why

I live in KY and I didn't get a grant. Maybe it's just for recruits (athletes) and families with a specific level of aid? I know athlete's get it because my friend got one.

Stanford didn't give me much aid... and i suck at sports.

check your packaging, be 100%

If you can't go to admit weekend because of an activity conflict and instead visit another time, what do you miss besides the opportunity to meet other 2010'ers?

you miss some free shirts and food. i don't want to say you don't miss much, but i wouldn't worry about being "out of the loop" when you come in september. sure, you could meet a lot of you class during admit weekend and get to know the school, but you'll have 4 years to do that too. and the same akwardness of not knowing anyone is still there come move in.

i took 1 parent, but that's b/c they insisted. all my other college visits were alone. def don't need your parent. wow, that sounded worse than i planned.

I got a grant, however I think it's because I live 3,000 miles away in Boston.

My parents want to come, though I don't know if I want them to.

hmm... I really wish I had a grant.

There are lots of events for parents, separate from what's planned for students. Even if your parents come, you don't have to worry about seeing them everywhere you go.
