Questions about cadet life (PART 2)

The other thread had a massive amount of posts in it, so any other questions on cadet life can be posted here. You can still carry over the same topics from the other one if you wish.

Do most/any cadets wear inserts in thier boots?

Some do, some don't.

The boots have their own inserts already. You can get fancy ones, but I don't think they make much difference. All I know is, don't get gel-ly ones. Those make the boots worse, because they don't give enough support and cause your foot to move around. Shoes that are truly good for your feet aren't that comfortable, because they're somewhat stiff.

I'm pretty sure I'm over worrying, but I'm wondering if my boots fit properly. I know I still have time to work this out, but I don't want them to cause me problems later on. I think mine might be too big. Since I'm female I had to guess at the size. 4 was definately too small, and I felt like 5 was also so I ended up with 5.5.

The thing is I think there might be too much space behind my heal. When I put them on I have my foot at an angle so my foot touches the back, but once I start walking I can feel the space. They're not uncomfortable though. Maybe I just need to wear them in more.

BTW: I've been wearing thin boot socks with them.

The boot socks you'll wear here are thick, so if you think they're a little loose now, this should take care of it.

That's a relief.

Thanks.

I have a question about AFA swim team. I'm a pretty decent swimming, but not amazing and I'm not recruited. For those we are familiar with swimming, I swim about 1:00 for 100 yard butterfly, 24.75 sec 50 free, and .54 sec 100 free. It's above average. I swam for high school for all 4 years and club swimming 1 year. I'm wondering what are the chance of swimming for AFA swim team. Is it hard to even train with them?

So i'm basiclly asking, will they train you if you have heart to improve, or is it very competitive to be on the team training. Thanks.

Have you contacted the coach? It's always worth a try, even just to see what they say. Plus, they are the ones that can tell you all the intricate details of the swim team. You can probably get a good idea of how good you'd need to be to be on the team just by looking at people on the team. www.airforcesports.com should have a complete roster and could probably tell you what some people on the team are swimming right now. If I were you, I'd try sending the swim coach an email or something (maybe fill out a recruiting form on airforcesports.com).

Are you a man or woman? That would make a pretty big difference. You could come out as a walk on, if you are not recruited by the coaches. The current team captain was not recruited and he is one of the top distance swimmers on the team. I will be on the men's team next year, if you have any other swimming questions, I will do my best to answer them.

Thanks man. I think i'll talk to the coaches about it. Can you tell me how I can contact him?

The mens coach is Rob Clayton e-mail rob.clayton@usafa.af.mil. Women's coach is Casey Converse, e-mail keith.converse@usafa.af.mil. Both are great guys, with a lot of experience. Hope to see you on the team next year!

If you can try wearing your boots for at least 24 hours of walking/jogging/running, if not more. And every once in a while drench them in water, somehow it helps the leather form to your feet. Also, do not polish your boots before coming unless you think you are the best.

zeroeight, what happens if you polish your boots before you come?

you will be given extra attention for your extra attention to your boots.

We talked about these a while ago. I tried to figure it out but I'm really confused about the ones to take from the book.

Who do you cadets think I should contact?? I have determined it is probably either the registrar or the specific department teachers, but I don't want to do anything wrong (like that guy who wrote to the Secretary of the Air Force) before I even get there.

The one that most confuses me is math.

Thank you.

solarmax, are you a girl or boy? if you're a girl, that's pretty awesome, expecially that 50fr & 100fr! if you're a boy, well.......the team might be a reach for you....at least compared to the times around here (tx) i'm used to seeing & the kids that are fast enough to swim college, academy or not.

I've been taking Spanish and this year I started Latin. I really love Latin, but I'm kind of getting tired of Spanish. Basically I was thinking about what language I wanted to take at USAFA, and I can't decide. For some reason I have this urge to learn German, but then there's Mandarin Chinese, Arabic and Russian.

Is it possible/wise to take more than one foreign language?

What's water haze?
