Questions about Cornell CAAAN Informational Meeting?

So I applied ED and received an e-mail asking if I wanted to schedule an informational meeting with a Cornell alumn at a Starbucks.

What is the point of this interview? I know it's for me to "get a better grasp of the school" and everything, but why me? There are thousands of applicants, why would they try to sell every applicant available on the school?

If I do go, would I have to dress formally?

If I don't go, will it impair me in any way? And if I do go, will it increase my chances of being accepted in any way?

If I go, will I be evaluated and will the interviewer attempt to gauge my real interest in the school? As in, will he try to detect if I am actually really interested in Cornell and my prospective major or applying just because? Because I read that there is a file made and it is sent to the school.

I had subpar freshman year grades that brought down my overall GPA and which I didn't mention in my application, would this be the place to bring it up?

That is all, thanks for reading/answering

I believe a significant number of posts on both current and past ED threads are dedicated to this. Don’t overthink it. You’re applying ED, they KNOW you’re interested.

I think you already know the answers to most of your questions. You should look presentable when you meet your interviewer, even if it’s at Starbucks. And definitely go–I’m pretty sure not going is the worst thing you can do apart from pouring coffee all over your interviewer or something. It’s informational. Relax. Yes, you should address your grades if prompted.

I know you’re nervous, but don’t be. The interview is meant to give you an opportunity to talk to a Cornellian about their experiences there. Good luck, and have fun with it!
