Questions about CSULB- incoming freshman

Hi! I am a senior in high school and am thinking about CSULB. I have to decide within the next 3 days so any help you can give for any of my questions would be awesome! Here are my questions:

  1. Is there school spirit/ are people proud of the school they go to?
  2. Is it easy to meet friends in the dorm setting?
  3. Is greek life big here for freshman specifically?
  4. Do people attend sporting events?
  5. Are there activities to meet new people for freshman like in the dorm halls?
  6. What do people do for fun outside of class/studying?
  7. Is partying big there?
  8. Is it hard to get around campus since it is so big if you are living on campus? How long does it take to get across the entire campus?
  9. If anyone that is reading this is a nursing major, how competitive is it to get in to nursing school after sophomore year?
  10. Is the school overwhelmingly big or is it a comfortable size?
  11. Overall, do you like the school you go to and would you recommend it to seniors in high school looking at where they want to go to college? And if so, what do you like most about it?

I’m stressed about making the wrong college decision, any help would be great!!

  1. CSULB is a little bit of a commuter school so people just sort of clock in and clock out but people do love it here and people often wear school gear.
  2. It's so easy to meet people in the dorms. RAs typically plan events throughout the semester to get you acquainted with your dormmates and people are typically friendly
  3. It's not nearly as big as other schools like UCs or USC but I know so many people that participate in Greek life. Frats and sororities typically have a Greek fair within the first month of school and they're at Week of Welcome which is basically a club rush.
  4. YES. We are huge on basketball, baseball and volleyball.
  5. see answer for #2
  6. people typically go to Greek parties or go to Downtown LA. Long Beach is close to a lot of different places
  7. CSULB isn't known as a party school but they certainly don't lack parties
  8. If you were to start from lower campus like the engineering building and then go to the library (furthest edge of upper campus), it would take 15 minutes. Since I'm lazy, I usually use the bus which stops at the dorms, the USU which is about the center of campus, and the library 9, I'm not in pre-nursing but I know a lot of people who are. They say that it's super competitive and they're almost always studying.
  9. It all depends on what you qualify as big and what you're comfortable with. We have roughly 30,000 students, which is definitely huge but to me, it is the perfect size because professors are still able to meet and care about students but also not so small that everyone knows everyone and their business.
  10. I definitely recommend it to seniors. The location alone was enough to make me choose it but it also has great professors and student life. It's also a little cheaper than other schools and they typically offer good financial aid packages. It was between this and SDSU for me and it ultimately came down to the atmosphere of the campus. I highly suggest you tour the schools you're interested in because it'd suck for you choose a school and then hate the atmosphere and vibe on campus.

Good Luck!
