CSULB (cal state long beach)

I applied for csulb as an undergrad. I've never been to california but a friend recommended this college, so i applied. I really like the school but im extremely nervous because as an out-of-student undergrad i feel like it'll be hard to make friends because I've seen previous posts about it being a commuter school. I don't want to be alone on campus if everyone goes home on the weekends. Is it that bad that i'll be alone or no social life on campus. Is it a good school? Please help me. & how is the greek life?

I don’t go to CSULB, but the school has a good reputation. It’s cheap, but they have enough resources and invest in education, especially in science/engineering/nursing/even the art programs. That said - almost everyone I know that attended is a commuter. People are friendly and stay on campus for clubs/food/drinks/whatever, but at the end of the day, a lot of them’ll be driving home.

I imagine everyone that doesn’t commute’ll find each other pretty quickly on Sundays. The parking is bad, or can be out of the way/packed, and even though Long Beach has a lot of good food you might be out of luck without a car (find a friend that does).

Only about 28% of frosh live in campus dorms; taking that as a proxy for resident students, that means about 72% commute from home.

If you are willing to walk a mile or two, there appear to be many restaurants near campus. But it is mainly a driving type of area.
