THEY SAID THAT!!! I mean even if it were true, it’s rare for schools to point out a specific limitation of an applicant.

I inquired to why I was rejected but it was actually extremely helpful to find out my flaws. At least they didn’t give me a BS (not boarding school) response.

Basically there’s a triangle. Grades, Community/Extra-curricular, and Athletics.

I’m confident about two of them. I’m no short of community services having dedicated time for my city’s cancer-care, homeless, siloam, habitat for humanity and children services…

My athletics is okay. Very active and dedicated to it.

I’m just really nervous about my grades…in Grade 10 my grades were B’s and some C’s since I had a hard time adjusting to Canada. Then I’m currently in Grade 11. At the very beginning of the year I was doing really great…A’s on everything, excellent teacher comment’s but depression hit me and I got A’s, B’s and two C’s…geez…

But I’m planning to repeat Grade 11. I don’t know if they will look unfavorably on me…geez.

and one more thing I’m extremely secure about…PSAT. I’m a natural with testing. I’m aiming for the 99-100% percentile to be honest. I gotta start preparing soon though.

I have a proven thing for tests…like it’s my forte.

100th percentile? wow, you’re ambitious !

There are more than 3 components. There’s grades, ECs (including community service + clubs + athletics), Test scores, teacher recommendations, essays, interviews, and a category for special hooks

I think it is more of a septagon than a triangle.

Make sure you explain your grades to them. Tell your story. Show your personality in your interviews and essays.

And let your test scores prove your competent in the areas where you got lower grades.

Divealive haha. I didn’t mean 100 That’s freaking impossible…I meant close to, hence the hyphen following the 99…

but yes I’m extremely good with testing.

Sorry I left the forum…internet troubles…

Yeah me too.

No one factor is more important than the others. I got into Exeter by leaving my EC list blank, since I didn’t really have anything worthwhile I could put on that list.

Being extremely strong in 1 area works, but most kids get in from simply being well-rounded.

Seikuu, can you tell me how I stand? How would Exeter see me?

If I’d grade my EC, Sports, and Grades

EC - volunteer work —> impressive, dedicated, sensitive issues, took many hours of my time

Sports - I’d say I’m a novice but I’ve won several awards already in track, cycling, cross country, and member of my province’s lacrosse and cycling associations…

Grades -
I didn’t do well until now. I used to have about 78% average, then year after about 82% and now I have about 94-97% (Estimate since school year hasn’t ended yet)

I feel like I’m not a strong candidate…I was an immigrant though so maybe I could explain that…

If I become so desperate I’d flash them my legs to let them know that their athletic department will miss on so much…JOKE!

Could we please leave this keep this thread to questions for Exeter students only? If you’re applying, there are plenty of threads to talk about that.

Oh sorry for the intrusion,it wasn’t stated that this thread was solely for Exonians.

bowing to musisat* slays a pig and offers it to you in fears of offending you

That’s not what I meant. I’m just suggesting you create your own thread or something for organization’s sake.

I was kidding…chillax.

maxwellvonthurn,

It is extremely early to start even thinking about 2010-2011 admissions; they don’t even release until September. There’s absolutely no point in thinking about your past grades, your past extracurriculars, and your past testing ability. All you can do is wait, and continue to work hard on every aspect of yourself, in order to prepare for this huge endeavor. Live your life, and have fun. In the end, admissions is basically a lottery; sometimes you get lucky, sometimes not. That’s life.

Overanalyzing your application will do nothing except cause you to worry way more about this whole process. Apply to a large number of schools; I can almost guarantee that you will get in SOMEWHERE, if you feel like you can handle the responsibilities of boarding school. If you don’t, for some reason, then you can at least say that you tried.

I suppose…but some outcomes are better than others are they not?

I’m just saying that it would be nice to know everything I have to know before the applications/admissions fever starts…

Its not too early to be thinking about admissions. You should spend this summer researching and visiting (if possible) potential schools to find the few that you want to apply to.

If you guys have any questions about Exeter, post them here.
