Questions about Georgetown

Hi everyone,

I recently became interested in Georgetown University because student activism is so popular there. I have some questions.

Firstly - Why Georgetown? Don't worry, I'm not asking you for material for the essay. I genuinely want to know why you like Georgetown. I'm trying to figure out if I want to apply or not, so I'd like to learn more about its pros.

Secondly - Just how Catholic is the university? Please note that I don't mean this as an insult to Catholics - its just that I'm not Catholic and I want to see how comfortable I'd be in the environment. According to some of my research, Georgetown has crosses in some of the classrooms, and it stopped funding a student's internship at Planned Parenthood. I know that it is anti-abortion and doesn't sell birth control.

Thanks!

No one? :(

Georgetown is a great school in a great part of a great city. There is nothing else quite like it. There is a mini controversey among Catholics surrounding allegations that Georgetown is not “Catholic” anymore. Without taking sides in that argument, let me assure you that non-catholics feel very welcome there. You should not let that concern you at all.

In addition, you will be surrounded by wonderfully gifted students from all over the world.

Go ahead and apply.

Thank you!!
