questions about major change and other stuff

hello everyone,

when i applied to stony brook university, i got accepted as a health science major and i would like to change my major to nursing but does this mean that i might have to reapply, or do i call and change my major, or do something else? because i already paid my deposits and i know they're non - refundable...

and a question about orientation:
does anyone know what goes on at orientation? like what do people do there?

i also have a question about placement tests
a friend of mine knows someone that goes to stony brook and said students have to take a placement test, does anyone know what thats for?

sorry for all the questions but thanks in advance

1) As far as changing your major, it won’t matter right now. You’ll need to apply to nursing down the road; admissions requirements include at least 57 college credits. So leave it be for now, and if you decide to apply into nursing for Fall 2012 (assuming you’re a freshman now), you could do that by December 2011.

2) Orientation is crucial, because that’s where you’ll register for classes. The earlier you get all your deposits in and your forms complete, the earlier your program will be, and the more classes will be available. You’ll also meet a bunch of the people you’ll be living with in the fall, as well as the advising staff (among others).

3) Theoretically, all incoming students need to take math and writing placement exams, although it’s possible to waive both of them. You’ll get information about them in your Orientation packet.
