asking questions for a highschool college search. would be great if those that go to northwestern answered these questions for me.

what’s your general view of the school … like campus life and the people there?

Do you go off campus to the surrounding cities? What is the area like in illinois?

There’s a 8-year med program at northwestern. heard anything about it? what’s it like?

What is dorm life like? Good lifestyle?

Is it pretty easy to make friends and what’s the typical class setting like?

is it easy to talk to teachers and are the teachers willing to give up free time to talk ?

please answer ASAP. thankyou

Using a search will net you most of your questions' answers. They are all very general questions that require more specifics to answer well (dorm life, for example, varies greatly among dorms; wide range of classes; etc.).

As for the med program, I believe it's a 7-year program, not 8. Very intense, and hard to get into. But worth it if it's what you want to do... although you need to be very qualified to get in.

HPME is designed to be a 7-year program, but it is flexible enough to allow you 8 years. It is a very competative program to get into. Most of the people that get in are HYP caliber students and there are a lot of cross admits with ivies. But to answer your question, it is one of the best BA/MD programs and its there to allow students a flexible undergraduate program so that they can pursue their passions to the fullest without having the pressures of getting into medical school.

Evanston is a suburb just north of the city of Chicago. It boasts some areas that are beautiful and upscale and others that are sketchier (as would any old-line suburb). The campus itself is right on Lake Michigan, prime real estate. It is an el-ride away from downtown Chicago. There is little need to go to any of the surrounding suburbs.
It has a strong Greek presence but it is by no means exclusionary. A survey of NU indicated that one of the strengths of NU's Greek program was that you could very easily go Greek and have friends outside the system -- it is not like other schools where you put all your social eggs in your Greek basket of choice. I think it has a lot to offer any bright kid -- there are few ways one could really go wrong with a NU choice.

I've found professors to be great at talking to you and answering your questions, or just hanging around in general. They care, which is nice :-D.

I also have like ... 20+ friends in HPME, they do well, but there are kids who aren't in HPME who do just as well or even better - so it's not really an indication of extreme merit. However, the program is selective as hell... so who knows?
