HPME Interview

I just had my HPME interview and I think it went well, but that is relative. The main thing is that I really fell in love with Northwestern, the students, and especially the medical school. At first Northwestern HPME was not on the top of my list, but now it is. The medical school is in the absolute perfect place.

I'm waiting anxiously for an HPME interview notification - could you tell me a little more about your interview? How was it? What did they ask you???

when and how(mail or email) did you get your notification for an interview for HPME? when did you turn in your application? and how were the questions like during the interview?
thanks!

The interview was surprisingly laidback. I was asked the basic questions of weaknesses and strengths, why I wanted to be a doctor, and what makes me unique, blah blah. Nothing that you wouldn't expect. Give honest answers because they can see through bs answers. Ummm...there is a hypothetical question at the end of the interview, but I guess it's different for everyone, so there is really no way of preparing for it. Plus, the interviewer said it really didn't count for anything (which could be a sneaky lie). I turned in my app at the end of November and received, through the mail, an interview notification during the 2nd or 3rd week of January. Hope that helps.

yeah, the interviews were great (3 out of the 4 of them...i just had 1 slightly bad/not fun one). Be yourself - but they're looking for certain answers...diligent, hardworking, leadership, etc....

My impression that i got was that undergrad SUCKS (i stayed overnight with a student - he and none of his friends liked the undergrad stuff) and that Med School is AWESOME.

But HPME is definitely at the top of my list - guaranteed acceptance to a top med school - cant find that in too many places

Interview was awesome!!!

Did you guys like the Evanston campus? By God! It was TINY!! :) (just means less walking time, which is good)

I thought the Evanston campus was in a good location. The med school was awesome!!! Heart of downtown Chicago, can't ask for much more.

ivyboy, what made the undergrad suck, did they say? was there a particular major in common between all of them?

well...they were in mad studying mode for organic chemistry. haha, i guess that can do it. they just said it was really hard and stuff - no real specifics. it didn't seem too bad. I just really didn't like how....racially segregated EVERYONE is at the undergrad level. Its rediculous. But I still <3 HPME :)

Orgo at NU was tough when I was there. The material in the book was not bad but the exam problems were considerably harder than those in the book. What's worse was there were so many smart people in the class and with the tough curve, it's pretty hard to get an A (or worse, to avoid a C; my friend studied pretty hard and got a C for first sequence; but when she took the second sequence in a school near her home over a summer, she got an A easily). A girl who went to UPeen but attended my church during vacation took the class over a summer and she said it's harder than any class she took at UPenn.

Really? because Penn is supposed to be the WORST in terms of premed sciences classes' curves

people who got the hpme interview, could you post your stats/activities? Thanks!

check the form under Multiple Degree Programs- Northwestern HPME has a huge form with all of this on it!

How Much Longer Must We Wait!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

until April 1

16 days....16

Countdown begins!!
