Questions about Ross

This semester (Winter), I plan on taking Astro 104, Econ 101, EECS 183 and English 125. I also plan on rushing. I'm worried that I won't be able to do to well this semester as my its a slightly difficult courseload. I've already received credit for Econ 101, so I was wondering whether I should do an easy course instead of it.

First semester I took: Psych 111, Calc 115, English 140 and EECS 101.

Will not taking Econ 101 hurt my chances too much? Or should I just suck it up and do the best I can in those courses. Also my Econ class is going to be with Caldwell.

Thanks!

You should definitely take Econ 101 on campus. Did you get IB credit for it? AP credit doesn’t even place you out of the class.

looks like a a very heavy courseload bro, I’d avoid Econ 101 and take an easier class instead since you already have credit

I believe you need to take Econ 101 at UM for Ross. My son had AP credit but took it last semester.
As an FYI, he took English 125’ stat 250, polysci and Econ 101 first semester. He joined a fraternity. He was told by his advisor last summer that he should NOT do Econ 101 and EECS 183 in the same semester, especially with rush and if he was planning on applying to Ross. he will be doing EECS this semester.

@maizeandblue21,

Yes, I do have IB credit for it. Would you still recommend me to do it again?

@ForeverAlone,

Thanks. Do you have a recommendation for an easy 4 credit course?

@jilldmd,

Thanks for your input! I believe that although AP credit doesn’t allow you to get out of the Econ 101 requirement, IB credit does. That seems like a great courseload for Ross, props to him for planning it out so well!

Econ 101 isn’t a lot of work, so if you’re good at it, it can be an easy A. I know several people who are strong in Econ so they put little work in it and still got great grades. If it isn’t your strength, then you might struggle regardless if you study harder than others.

I just dropped Econ 101. It seems this semester I’m going to be taking EECS 183, English 125, Astro 104 and AOSS101/PHIL162. I’m worried that not taking Econ will make my app look bad. I have really good ECs though and my first semester GPA was a 4.0. Is not taking any Econ not a good idea? I received a 7/7 in my IB Econ HL if it matters.

It still shows up on your transcript that you had taken Econ IB. Seems like the 7/7(dunno if that also shows up) means you probably would’ve quite well in Econ 101 since it’d be mostly review for you. But you would’ve been bored by it. Plus, I think retaking in your case Econ would forfeit 4.0 credits. I’d take it an opportunity to take an interesting class.
