I hope to bring AP Micro credit with me and I’m currently taking a W131 equivalent at a community college. Math is not my thing so I know any math class will be really tough for me. Since I am about to be a freshman and have no math credits, does anyone have any suggestions for a schedule where I could take math online or at a CC over next summer? I keep reading that SA application to Kelley takes place in the spring, but I don’t think I’ll have any math credits by then if I take math online next summer. I definitely think I need an easy transition into IU to build my confidence and study skills. I’m taking statistics in HS right now (not AP) and have not taken calculus. Any advice would be appreciated.
If I can’t make it into Kelley, is there another major (Communications?) with a Kelley minor that would give me the opportunity to interview for typical business internships including marketing or finance?
You should study the minimum requirements to apply to Kelley:
http://kelley.iu.edu/Ugrad/Admissions/CurrentIU/page39067.html
Equivalent credit for W131 and e201 microecon are probably the two best choices to bring with you to IUB.
You don’t need to take any math classes at IUB your freshman year in order to get into Kelley, if you take accounting A201 or Econ E202 instead of a math class like M118 or M119.
The only Kelley classes you need to apply to Kelley if you insist on not taking M119 calculus your freshman year would be:
Fall Semester:
Bus K201 3 credits
Bus A100 1 credit
Bus C104 3 credits
Spring Semester:
Bus G202 (you must have credit for E201 microecon to be able to take G202) 2 credits
Bus A201 (you need credit for A100 to take A201) OR Econ 202 3 credits – two very difficult courses at IUB
Get all solid B or higher in these classes and take 12 credits per semester with all solid B or higher; that makes 24 credits plus the six from W131 and microecon equivalents to get to the minimum of 30 credits to apply. Take some one-credit Kelley courses to help get to 12 credits each semester.
You should take pre-calc in hs. You will have to take M119 or equivalent sooner or later to graduate from IUB. You can take M119 at a cc in summer after your freshman year plus another Icore prerequisite or two to catch up on your Icore prerequisites.
A Kelley minor won’t make you very competitive for jobs against Kelly ugrad majors.
