Feedback on Kelley Schedule

Hi guys, I am looking for feedback on my schedule for freshman year. I have AP credit for W131, Micro, and Macro. I also have credit for M119 through ACP. I am expecting to have all gen ed requirements complete through AP (expecting to enter with >35 credits) except for WC and A&H. I am also in the ACE program, so I have to take C106 and K204 this semester. I also took a year of accounting in high school.

BUS-T 175 – Kelley Compass 1 – 1.5 Credit Hours - Emily Dutton
BUS-A 100 – Basic Accounting Skills – 1 Credit Hour (1st 8 weeks) Vivian Winston
BUS-K 204 – Computer in Business Honors – 3 Credit Hours - Carlos Colon
BUS-C 106 – Business Presentations Honors – 3 Credit Hours - Tatiana Kolovou
MATH-M 118 – Finite Mathematics– 3 Credit Hours - Zhixu Su
REL-A 250 - Intro to Christianity - 3 Credit Hours - Candy Brown
Total - 14.5 Credit Hours

I should easily be able to get into all of these classes except for REL-A 250. I don’t have orientation until the June 18th, and it is almost full. My backup for that is CLAS-C 101 Intro to Greek Culture with Margaret Foster. I’m guessing people will tell me to not take finite, but I got an A+ on the M119 midterm and final in my ACP class, and the logical/problem solving side of math comes fairly easily to me. Do you guys have any suggestions?

Your schedule looks reasonable to me. My D had a similar schedule last fall as a freshman. I may be wrong but I thought even though you have AP credit for Micro and Macro, you still have to take Micro and Macro at IU as a Kelley requirement ( same for AP Stats- need to take Stats at IU for Kelley). That is what they told my D. Someone else on CC can confirm that.

I’m looking at the checklist sheet my daughter got back in 2013 when she was registering for classes as a Kelley DA freshman. It shows that AP credit does count for Micro and Macro, but does not count for Stats. So unless that has changed, iubaccounting is right on track.

You don’t need to take Micro/Macro if you have AP credit for it. The reason that AP Stats students still have to take stats for Kelley is that Kelley requires a different set of stats courses than the AP exam gives you credit for.

Thanks guys. I am very thankful for all of the incredibly useful information and help that I have gotten on this site over the past couple years. I would have had no idea that critical tools like the grade distribution database even existed, or what classes to take to maximize my GPA without you guys.

@iubaccounting how did your registration go ?

When I arrived to schedule my classes yesterday I was told that

  1. I do not have to take Chinese 101 as a result of my foreign language exam result
  2. I do not have to take English because of my critical reading score on my SAT
  3. I have already fufillled my N&M requirement as a result of my BIO SAT II score.

So 3 of the the 6 classes I had put in my cart I did not need - Just curious if I should have known that before I got there?

Does anyone know if there is away for those who have not attended orientation yet to know what classes they do not have to take prior to the day you are set up to register. I was able to change my schedule with the help of the advisor but would have been much better to know that before I went. Thanks

Also I still do not have a dorm assignment and they told me the next wave of assignments will go out at the end of the year.

** sorry - meant end of the month

@pmcnyc I’m satisfied with my schedule. It isn’t exactly what I wanted, but it works. I ended up dropping compass because they would only let me register for 3 business classes, and I had to replace REL-A 250 with CLAS-C 101 because it was full. I ended with 13 credit hours.

You probably could have found out that you didn’t need to take another N&M gen ed, and that a 670 would give you credit for W131 if you did some digging, but there is no way to see your foreign language placement results until you see your advisor as far as I know. Somehow I actually tested into a 4th semester level Spanish class even though I only took 3 years of Spanish and quit after sophomore year. I have no idea how that happened, but I’m not taking Spanish because I really don’t remember much and would probably struggle to pass in college
