UCSB is my dream school but the only way I can get in is through SBCC. With their TAG transfer program, am I guarenteed a spot in UCSB no matter what? What are the conditions to get in?
What specific high school GPA do I need to maintain to get into UCSB through 2 years at SBCC? What about my SBCC GPA?
Also, if anyone goes or has gone to SBCC, how would you describe your college experience?

For UCSB, applicants of fall 2012 had to have a 3.2 GPA to have the TAG(guarantee agreement). I don’t know if the GPA will increase for Fall 2013 or 2014 applicants (they don’t accept spring transfers). Just curious, why is your only way through SBCC? TAG should be applicable at most CC’s in CA. I think IGTEC has to be complete as well, and major prep is recommended. I don’t think HS GPA is even accounted for; as an applicant I have yet to need my HS GPA or even HS transcript sent to UCSB. They evaluate your application based on your performance as a college student, which would be your work at UCSB and other college institutions attended.

SBCC is a great school if you take advantage of it. I have been here for 2 1/2 years, and have had a very positive experience, especially in contrast with the UC (not SB) that I initially attended straight out of high school. It is in a beautiful location, near downtown, with lots of people ranging from local students, commuter students, older students, and international students (including a large Swedish population). I would highly recommend getting involved in your department of study, acquainting yourself with your professors and your classmates. It really makes all of the difference; for me that is the way that I have been able to make it seem a lot smaller, and a lot more enjoyable. I have known most of my professors on first name basis’, and been able to get involved although I am a commuter student. I really would recommend the honors program if you’re up for it; it’s a great way to network with other students and get close to a group of people. Also, for completing the program you are automatically admitted into UCSB’s honors program (and probably looks great for their admission, too), and can help with admission to other UC’s like UCSC and UCLA. Depends on what you’re into. Also, most of my professors have been professors with PhD’s in their fields and just amazing people in general, and really provide extra encouragement in your transfer process if you open yourself up to that.

I’d say overall it is great and I’m so happy with the time I have spent here. It really is what you make of it. A lot of students choose to live in IV (Isla Vista) which is in Goleta, right by UCSB, and get easily connected with the social life of the university and many other CC’ers. It is a large party area and not very close to SBCC campus, though, about 12 miles.

If UCSB is your dream school, and if possible, I would recommend coming to talking to a counselor at SBCC. There are even days that SBCC holds with UCSB reps that can address your issues, and they come on campus pretty often. Feel free to send me a message if you have any specific questions. Hope I helped!

I’m UCSB tagged. Tag is like a contract, as long as you meet your end of the contract deal then you will be guaranteed admission.

The conditions to complete TAG at all the UC campuses are at http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/counselors/files/ETS11_TAGMatrix_rev070111.pdf
Most important to you are the required GPA to qualify for TAG. Some UCSB majors require completion of the undergrad prerequisites, others strongly recommend it. But if you fulfill all the TAG requirements then you are 100% promised admission.

You might want to read thru my post in the UCSB forum about SBCC, a thread called the backdoor way into UCSB. Going to SBCC can give you a lot of the same experience as being a UCSB student all 4 years.
