SBCC to UCSB Tag Program! help!

Ive been researching the sbcc to ucsb tag sytem and it almost seems too easy for guaranteed admission! Does UCSB still look at high school grades? Because under the requirements for tag all it says you need to be admitted is C letter grades or better at sbcc to be admitted. What s the catch? It almost seems too easy... Thank you.

I don’t think that’s true… That’s a 2.0. Read this: admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/files/tag-matrix.pdf

UCSB min. TAG GPA is 3.2 (3.4 for certain majors)

You sir are correct, i was looking at the uc transferrable cources which it says you need a C or better in, as seen here,http://admissions.sa.ucsb.edu/pdf/UCSB%20Fall%20TAG.pdf</a></p>

however, thats only for 4 classes, so i understand now. A 3.2 seems a little harder and more dedication! lol.

One last thing, how hard is achieving that 3.2? I have 3.6s in high school with minimal effort.
Thanks!

Very achievable. Make sure you meet up with your cc counselor and plan it all out. TAG can be kinda tricky with some not-so-obvious prerequisites (like a certain GPA in your major courses). Go to Assist.org select SCBB, UCSB and your intended major. It’ll show you the courses you need for your major + any other prerequisites.

I did do that and it seemed like the highest was engineering at 3.4 and the others were 3.2 or lower. Thanks for your info. Im a Minnesota student and am set on SBCC to UCSB. Paradise here i come.

The California Community Colleges are extremely impacted. You will want the same classes that all the others want. There is a good chance that you will spend an extra year toiling at SBCC because of this. Remember that room and board and cost of living are about the same for SBCC and UCSB. By going to SBCC you save the difference in tuition, but not the other expenses. If you have to spend extra years you add to the cost.

I would figure out exactly what classes you need to take at SBCC and in what order (looking at pre-requisites). Then, get onto their class registration site to see if there are actually openings in the classes you need each quarter. This might give you an idea if getting through in 2 years is possible.

I’m more familiar with the Cuesta/Cal Poly TAG program and I know many students can’t get the classes they need in a timely manner.

UC schools are a decent deal for CA residents but IMHO are not at all worth it for an OOS student. You will not be able to qualify for CA resident rates at UCSB in all probability; there are very few exceptions. For $50K+ a year you could attend a school with much more personal attention and smaller classes. Or you could attend a state school, spend thousands every summer on a beach vacation, and still come out way ahead.

Have you got your parents agreement to pay for this? The UCs do not extend financial aid to cover OOS fees, so either your parents have to pony up the money or co-sign for loans to pay the OOS charges.
