Now that summer has fully started, it's high time I started preparing and getting everything done for Aug 20! But I do have a couple of questions that I would really appreciate if someone answered.

How do we figure out which classes we are supposed to take? Ive looked over the 2000+ courses in the class catalog and it is so confusing. In high school, my counselor usually arranged the majority of my classes. Will I have the same luck at Cornell? Also, when do we buy our books for the classes?

When do we figure out our roommate and housing information? Also, how do we request lofting?

How do we find an on campus job? I have work study as part of my financial aid and since Im in CA, I cant really go to Cornell before term starts to physically find a job.

On orientation day, Aug 20, it says that Im supposed to be there from 8am-5 pm. But I dont arrive in Syracuse until like 9 and then its a 1 hour drive to Ithaca. Is it okay to be late on Orientation Day?

I know some of my questions might seem rather dumb, but I just dont want to mess anything up this early in my college life. better safe than sorry.

Just want to remind you that you are assigned a move-in time based on your last name.
Go check the orientation website for specific time slots.
They say you can’t move in before the time slot assigned for your group starts.

As for classes, what college are you in? Some colleges will pre-enroll you in classes, but if you’re in Arts and Sciences, it’s up to you to select your courses. You can of course get feedback from your advisor, but he/she won’t actually arrange your schedule for you.

Thanks for the responses. ironically, I just got my housing info and roommate info today through email. It seems that Im staying on the 5th floor of Donlon Hall. How is the dorm?

Im in engineering, so I think some classes are picked for me.

You don’t have many options for engineering, you should have gotten an email telling you what to take in each subject or it may be on the website.

If you want to know more about donlon, there’s a thread and Im sure people who lived there or know about it will post about it.

Most people i know arrive at cornell the night before orientation to start the next day early, i dont think late arrival will be a problem though.

For everything else, google is your friend.

you can try to look for jobs online but there is also a jobs fair during orientation where some of the major employers on campus have booths and you can speak with representatives and pick up information.
