Questions about the Texas Advancement Commitment

I’m a prospective transfer student and I was curious about this

https://texasadvance.utexas.edu/

  1. Does this apply to transfer students, or only continuing students?

  2. Does this simply cover tuition and fees, or other costs such as housing?

  3. If anyone reading this has recieved benefits from this, would you mind sharing what it covered for you?

I thought the Frequently Asked Questions under the Texas Advance Grant made this pretty easy to answer.

Texas Advance Grant is for First Time In College Students.

First-Time-in-College Students - General Overview. A student who has never attended a postsecondary college or university or who has attended an institution and earned less than twelve (12) semester credit hours of academic credit after high school graduation is considered a First-Time-in-College student.

  1. Definitely for continuing students and for Transfer Students considered First Time In College.

  2. For Texas families with an AGI up to $30,000, awards range from $300 to more than $11,000 per year to ensure that tuition is completely covered. This will either be covered by Pell Grant/Texas Grant/Texas Advance or some combination.

For Texas families with an AGI between $30,000 and $100,000, award amounts will range from $300 to $2,500 per year depending on the student’s financial need to cover tuition.

ONLY applies to Tuition. Unless you come in with your own outside scholarships or receive Texas Exes, Honors or Department scholarships.

  1. It’s a relatively new program.
