I recently enrolled in a community college near me (I’ll call it College A) that has a Graphic Design major because I liked the subject well enough in high school. My goal, however, is to work in animation. I’ve been self-taught up until this point but I found a school a bit further away (College B) with a program that better suits my goal. I avoided looking at schools other than A because it has the shortest commute and is closest to my home/workplace, but I could change work locations since I work for a chain company and I’m not home that much anyway.
I know it’s possible to transfer from other threads that I’ve read, but I have some questions about the actual process.
- Which school would I talk to first about transferring and what people from each school should I talk to?
- Would applying to school B be a different process? What information about my previous college would I need to provide in the process besides a transcript?
- Is there any official way to cease taking classes at College A, or would I just not register for more classes?
- Would you recommend transferring ASAP or taking some of the required general classes at College A first? Both colleges are in the same state and I believe basic classes like English and Business Math or prerequisite art classes should transfer fine, but I’m not sure if doing that would make anything better or worse.
I tried to find this information on their websites but all of their transfer info is about going to 4 year schools, which is not my plan at all… I’m a bit lost. Thanks.
