questions about transferring to a California school!!

i am attending monroe community college in rochester, ny right now. I plan on completing my 2 years at mcc and then enrolling at either pepperdine, loyola marymount, ucla, usc, or the university of san diego for fall 2013 which means i have to apply in the fall of 2012. I am going to school for business administration and want to go on to get my MBA. In order to transfer i believe i have to have completed 30 credits.

Do the 30 credits have to be towards my major?
And how does the whole transfer process work? I don't understand it at all.. like i know not all of my credits will transfer.. but if i graduate from MCC with an associate's degree and then go to one of the schools above to get my bachelors do i start off as a junior or will i have to earn my associate's in california? (i dont know if that makes sense)

The 30 credits count toward eligibility for admission. Each of the private schools that you’ve mentioned has their own criteria as to which (and how many) credits they will accept toward your graduation requirements from their institution.

Depending on how many credits the school you decide to attend accepts, you will begin at that level. In other words if you complete 30 credits, but they only count 25, then you would enter as a second semester Freshman. If an AA degree is not a requirement for admission to a 4-year school, then you can factor that out entirely.

What you should do is to check the transfer requirements at each of the schools that you’re interested in. many require that you take a specific range of classes, including a composition class, a math class or a science class and a humanities class. Find out what your preferred schools are looking for and craft your upcoming schedule accordingly.

Good luck.

the UC schools don’t accept lower-division xfers (except maybe Merced). So you will need 2 years worth of college to apply, which is 90 units on the quarter system. 30 credits sounds like 1 years worth of credits on a semester system.

Davis accepts lower division transfers for certain majors.

matark is right, but it doesn’t sound like a very promising path

Well im just trying to transfer out there now because I have family in san diego and i dont want to spend anymore time in ny. I was supposed to go to SMC in the fall of 2011 but that fell through so thats why im still here. The whole transferring of credits and everything is just confusing so im trying to get in touch with someone to help me through that whole process.

60 semester units = 90 quarter units = upper division (junior level) transfer.

Less than that number means a lower division (sophomore level) transfer.

The California public schools favor upper division transfers over lower division transfers. For each private school, you have to check individually.
