Questions about UConn

I’m a current sophomore at Boston College but I have decided to apply to transfer to UConn for Fall 2019 because BC took away a large part of my financial aid (due to my family’s finances) and my junior year will end up costing ~ $78k. I have a couple questions about UConn transfer admissions as well as research on campus.

I am a CT resident and at BC I am a chemsitry major and mathematics minor with a 3.7 GPA. I am involved in a few clubs on campus, have been on Dean’s List every semester. I had a 4.1 weighted GPA in high school, 1500 SAT, a few 750+ SAT 2 scores. Do I have a good chance of getting into UConn Storrs? I believe I am above average on test scores but I am worried because I really need to get in due to finances. Is there anything I should do to increase my chances?

Another question I had was about research at UConn. I am really interested in participating in undergraduate research in chemistry or chemical engineering at UConn. Are there a lot of opportunities to do so? I also want to do research this summer (either at UConn or Yale) and am wondering how to go about doing that. I would rather do research at UConn since it’s closer than Yale and I wouldn’t have to pay for housing. Should I reach out to the chem department head? Or professors individually.

Thanks!

@arsenal1717: Your qualifications are excellent & your reason for transferring understandable. You should be admitted.

What qualifies you to do research at Yale University as a non-affiliated undergraduate student at another school ? It seems unreasonable to me that Yale University would even consider allowing you to do research on Yale’s campus.

My advisor at BC and professor have offered to connect me with professors there. I know many undergrads (not students at Yale) who have participated in research over the summer at Yale. My question was more geared towards undergraduate research at UConn and how prevalent it was on campus there.

There are many undergraduate research opportunities at UCONN. If you reach out you will likely be able to find something. Your stats are solid for Storrs.
