Oh yeah and AP is included in the whole weighted thing as well. If you live in Ontario, an 85 is an A which is a 3.7-3.8 GPA.

I do live in Ontario
I always thought that I was doing pretty good at school…
However, other sources that I have found mentions that an 85 average can convert into a gpa that is as low as 3.0.
Does that conversion not apply to me becuase other places considers 80s as a B?
Should I be concerned with my average?

Honestly, my HS is very strict with marks, and the highest possible average would be around a 90. Do colleges consider class averages? I asked my GC about class rankings, and she said that my school will not be giving any out.

Same thing with my GC, but I convinced them to give me a general figure to use for the app (i.e. top 5%). Just try to get the best marks you possibly can from now on. And yes, I think that the 3.0 GPA must have come from thinking that 80s are Bs. In our system, they’re As, plain and simple. I had a cumulative average (i.e. all 4 years of HS) of 90 by the end of 1st semester Gr. 12 and got into Wharton. I don’t think an 85 would make much of a difference (and an upward trend is always good - I was getting low and mid 80 averages in grades 9 and 10).

thank! my average has always been a sore spot for me. But after knowing your experience, I have more confidence. I’ll definately step it up in grade 11 and 12 :)

Awesome! You’ve got plenty of time. Good luck!

Hi, I am a canadian from Montreal who definitely wants to study in NYC. I just started college (Dawson) in communications. I have tons of questions regarding applications and all that stuff. Here are a few ones:

What are the possibilities to get financial aid, grants, scholarships?
I want to finish my cegep in montreal (2 years) how will that affect my application?
Do I have to transfer or enter as a freshman?

More questions will come…

You can PM me if you want.
Thanks a lot, Beatrice

Hey, guys, a quick question.
If you went to a Canadian school, do you have to fill out the “International Application”?
Kind freaking out here because I had the counselor fill out only the school forms.

I don’t know if the people answering here are still active but I need to ask how they handled money for US schools? Cause obviously they are more expensive & rarely give scholarships to “internationals” I also need to know if you took out a loan did you do it in Canada or the US?

Most likely you will have to take out a loan in Canada since the State’s financial aid system rarely offers aid to internationals. If they do, it is often merit-based and super competitive.
However, certain private schools cough are rich enough and still offer need-blind financial aid to internationals.

I’m applying for UC Berkeley and I have some problems in high school mark input. My school offers 2 semesters in one school year and students are only allowed to take 4 courses in each semester. So overall, including G12, I will complete 24 semiyear-long courses, which equals to 12 year-long courses. But UC has this a-g requirements, saying I have to have 15 YEAR-LONG courses scored over a C. If you can follow my explanation, yes, the problem is I don`t even have <15> year-long courses!! Have someone else met this problem before? (BTW, Im from Calgary, AB)

Hi do we Canadians have to take the SAT or ACT in order to get in a Americam University? Can we just use our transcript?

Also what do you think of getting into a Canadian university such as UofT and then transfer to an American one later? Are there many people do that?
