i was wondering about that (about everyone being broken physically). are there no people who are in such good shape that it is somewhat easy for them to go through it?

The better shape you are in, the less frequently it happens. I know of no one who did not brake in BCT. They will find your weakness.
Another tactic to break basics is to switch out Cadre...if they have to do that, you are doing GREAT. Everyone breaks, just don't be one of the first!

Um I didn't really break during 1st Beast and I got tag teamed by cadre individually one day, but I'll admit my cadre never went crazy trying to break me like I watched them on others. Just don't get labeled like an attitude problem and be sure that if your not breaking that your helping out your classmates. I'm def not saying that I'm stronger than anyone else on this board because everyone had different cadre for Basic and I'm really uncoordinated, but pushups and flutter kicks are really easy for me. On the A Course I cramped up though and was seriously dragging for the last couple obstacles, so I was pretty broken there though.

On the Obstacle course, my element kept "putting out" and we kept getting "rewarded" for it. It helped that we were only like 4 or 5 guys though, but those course cadre really would let you stand at attention if they thought your high knees were good.

Oh and never let your cadre force you to say "I'm Broken"

But yeah, just bottom line be in the best shape you can be in and recognize it's gonna suck, but know you'll get through it.

This may sound like a dumb question, but what do you guys mean by being broken? Crying when it gets painful/stressful? Or is it more of an attitude issue, where they just try and get you down?

'Oh and never let your cadre force you to say "I'm Broken" '

What do they do, yell at you and ask you if you're broken yet? Sorry, guys, I'm confused...

Being broken is when the Cadre start doing exercises until you cannot do any more. For example, one of my cadre broke our flight by doing 64 (IIRC) diamond push-ups, without slowing down.
By that time, we were either on the ground, in the front-leaning rest, or trying but failing to do correct diamonds.

When they notice a basic either trying but failing to do more or stopping, Cadre often ask something like "Basic! Are you Broken!?" Admitting that you are broken is usually a very bad idea. However, at one point, our Cadre would keep going until we admitted it...then switch to a different exercise.

USAFA lingo note: Most Basics are broken during a "beat session." A beat session is where the Cadre find something a basic did wrong, then PT the flight until people break...i.e. lots of push-ups, flutter kicks, and ranger claps.

Gotcha. Thanks raimius. Sounds like fun. Or something. :)

Yeah, I saw cadre go both ways with the whole admitting your broken thing. It's like everything else in Basic either way you lose...haha

I seemed to gather from AFA's website that all 4th degrees arrive in late june for bct? is that correct? I'm also curious if u guys know when they stop giving out the early nominations. I just had my interview with my ALO last week, It seemed to go good, so Im hoping on getting news soon. I've read all the post for most of this site and I want you guys there to know i appreciate the time and effort your putting in to letting us future cadets learn about the academy. thank you very much.

I was wondering the same thing as cdk0089. I seem to remember that you 2010 cadets got there for BCT the day after Summer Seminar B. If it's the same for us, it'll be June 25???

Dont take this the wrong way(obviously the reason were going to the academy isnt for its "tremendous" social life.. or lack ther of)haha.. but as far as guy-girl relationships... do they exist? Are they allowed to exist? lol? I'm just curious on that and how you guys handle it? Also on the whole bring guest into the academy(arnies etc..)

2011 BCT begins June 28th.

Relationships exist. My friend has a girlfriend (1 month now) and he does Fairchild Hall dates with her. So yes they do exist.

I had my parents come to richter lounge in Arnold Hall during the Navy weekend, you are allowed to bring guests to Arnold Hall on weekends.

As far as "handling" girl-guy stuff....you also have passes, go find a civvie girl. ;)

A civie girl. Oh Hornetguy....the 20% of female cadets are gonna be very upset with you.

Man, I could say more about USAFA chicks.....but I won't.

Honestly though, the girls at USAFA are really fun people. Hell, most I know are more gung ho and risky than the guys. Go figure. :)

I haven't posted on here for a long time but I had to jump in when I saw this. I've heard that there are a lot of guys who look down on the girls at service academies for being kind of burly and then when they see them in civilian clothes, are shocked at how attractive they are. Heck, they're in better shape than about 99% of the rest of the women in this country. I know ya'll are just joking, but that's some food for thought.

yea i was thinkn about that. Hornet, wats a fairchild hall date? A date where you walk the halls??haha? well you guys r awesome cant wait to be getting bossed around by you next year..haha.

Be careful what you wish for! ;)

lol. Fairchild dates are where you go to an empty classroom in Fairchild. Not very romantic. ;)

Man, once I saw some of our chicks in civvies....DAMN. Jame3 is right, I think the hair pulled hard back and uniforms just kill the looks.

cdk, I'd be more than willing to find you next semester to be "bossed around" ;)

Lol.. cant wait SIR..haha(not yet). But um whats your favorite part of schooling so far? I personally cait wait for the intramurals..;) hhehe. (love the competition)

intramurals were fun. I did frisbee, made it to semi-finals in group one. It's a great stress reliever, especially to get down to the fields on sunny and beautiful days!

Favorite...hum....not sure actually. I can't think of a particular thing, intramurals are fun. Laugh, but my bud and I go to abs class at the gym every other day (he goes every day). The female cadets running it (30 min per class) just destroy us! It's a great feeling and is keeping legs and abs in shape for PFT and for training to come.

For me, I love USAFA for the people. My fellow 4 dig friends are awesome people and I've never had such close friendships as I do here. And so many upperclassmen are willing to help and mentor as well as offer good advice that I don't hesitate if I need to go to them. I may be at home now, but I miss my friends back at "home" ;)

It's really important to find loves here, so many become cynical right away because they can't find a passion here. I treat every day as a treat, going out into the sunny blue days or goofing off with my friends keeps my sane. For the majority that strain in schoolwork, its especially important or life becomes miserable. Going outside is a big deal. One of my room mates sits on his butt all day on his computer chain drinking cokes. He's up to 197 pounds (190 entering, 180 after BCT) and will probably be over 200 after the break. He looks and smells awful, he's on academic and athletic probabtion. I can't understand how he lives that way, no friends and nothing to do. It's important to stay fit and go outdoors or you start degrading really. Don't be that person, its sad to watch.

OK, so I've rambled long enough, enjoy the little time of turkey week left yall!

Sounds like George Rash from Absolutely American. Easy to write off, but harder to accept. When you graduate you'll be asked to lead men like your roommate. he may not be the model, but he is the lesson. Over twenty years in the Air Force I met, supervised, and managed many people with challenged social skills. You cannot make him succeed, but can make him fail.
