Questions?/Concerns?

thank you very much, ur help is very much appreciated

How much time do you actually have for intramurals a week? Are you allowed to go play basketball and such on the weekends in your spare time?

Intramurals are two days a week from 4:30 'til 6:00ish in the evening.

Yes, you can go play basketball or other sports at the gym in your free time. The gym is open during the day and most of the evening.

Do you guys get back in time to do some christmas shopping or is most of it done online?

I got back on the 19th, the latest people get back would be the 21st. I did my shopping up there, but I think we would have time if we really wanted to do it at home.

my son scheduled his exams on the 15th and 16th of Dec. He was home by 5:15 pm Sunday the 17th. Say a prayer for all the cadets that are stranded by the Denver Blizzard. Some cadets may not get home until Christmas evening!

C/Falcon -- if it helps you: I remember that in one of our trips to the academy, someone from admissions told us that they liked to see focused, dedication to EC's and sports more than necessarily a larger number of EC's and sports. So I would interpret that as meaning that if you make it clear on your application that you are on two swim teams it would demonstrate your committment. I think it works well for you -- IMO.

"Do you guys get back in time to do some christmas shopping or is most of it done online?"

I'm doing most of mine back home, but I saw people accomplish most of it there. Yeah def. momof3boyz my roommate didn't go home for Thanksgiving and is now stuck at USAFA...

How much does it cost to go to orientation (excluding air fare)? I will be going by myself and just wondering what all of the expenses will be.

Are there any recruited athletes among you? My son has been recruited for soccer and I was wondering what kind of schedule he might have at the academy.

I can't remember redhead

IC's (athletes) usually have practice for long hours in the afternoons. They typically don't train much with the rest of us.

in the appointee orientation packet, it says a fee of 35 dollars, and a fee of 20 dollars for guests, and under 10 is free. you can also purchase your boots while you're there. though, they don't say how much the prices are for the boots. they can only be purchased by a money order or a cashier's check.

What do most cadets do on parents weekend? As a fourth-year can you go off campus all weekend? Also are only parents allowed to come or can other family members, girlfriend, or a highschool buddy come?

Most cadets hang out with their families, do stuff they miss (i.e. movies, shopping, sightseeing, etc.), and sleep. Yes, parents weekend is the first time that 4 digs can leave campus--if you don't, you're a sad, sad person. Pretty much anybody can come.

I know we were prepared to take any stranded cadet for the weekend. We could not live with ourselves if one of our son's friends had no where to go.

When my husband went out for a visit in Oct., he went back to the hill to pick up two cadets and took them to brunch.

We are all family! We are supposed to look out for one another.

I'm confused about the orientation information in the appointee packet. During the actual orientation we will be staying with a cadet, right? When is everyone flying in? The night before your session, and then staying at the hotel? Sorry, guys, I'm working this out by myself, so... :) And momof3boyz, do you remember anything about the price of boots?

most people stay in a hotel the night before (Sunday night).

I will be flying in on Sunday and staying in a hotel, but I don't know if I should leave on Tuesday or stay in a hotel Tuesday and leave Wednesday. What is everyone else doing? I will be attending the April 9-10 session. Anyone else going then? For redhead, 167 days till basic!

Boots cost around $100.

My son did not go to Orientation but I remember the AFA had two locations at nearby hotels to catch a shuttle bus. This is for the Appointees that traveled alone. Pack light.

Our son is going to Orientation April 9 & 10. Wife and other son are flying out with him on the Friday before and touring the area on Sat. and Sun before he goes to Orientation on Monday. (Easter Sunday cog train tour up Pike's Peak !) They are staying at the hotel until Wed, then flying back home. This is son's spring break week, so we made it a bit more of a vacation. I can't go, so wife gets all the fun.
