Questions?/Concerns?

I was thinking of leaving Sunday, and staying there for a whole week. You know, get a good look at Colorado Springs. Maybe even ge ta chance to snowboard. Too bad my spring break week is in March though.

I'm planning on attending the April 9th-10th session too. My family is driving up on Sunday, and will probably stay in a hotel for Wednesday night. 164 days until BCT!

Also attending the April 9-10 orientation. Flying in on Sunday and leaving
Wednesday morning.

Im pretty sure I'm flying in on a Sunday as well, but my orientation is the 23-25

Are there any asians, specifically Indians, at the academy? Do they get along with and work well with the cadets? How do they do at squadron training with others?

And, uh, does having a private pilots license help you in admissions, or allow you to pursue perhaps an early flying career?

Not really sure about having "Indians" here in terms of them being different from everyone else, we have all ethnicities, and everyone works well together.

Having a PPL is just another extracurricular really, but it shows seriousness, but isn't a HUGE helper.

<- asian. vietnamese actually.

Yes, we have just about every ethnicity here. If race affects a person's judgements, they probably will not do well here. It isn't a factor, unless someone makes it one.

"Always remember, you're unique--just like everyone else."

Great. So there are some asians there. Even if there wasn't I'd be cool with it.

However, what about this thing I hear about, some kind of pro-christian movement? It was on the news before. Especially due to where its located, people have reported abuse on the grounds that evangelical christians harass them. True?

bumpbumpbump...

why'd this huge thread fall all of a sudden?

Maybe you asked a question that most of us would rather not even attempt to answer. The media made a field day out of the evangelical Christian topic at the academy. Probably the reports have been unfair to almost everyone whether they are Christians or not. Christians are more likely to lead a disciplined life and often have a stronger work ethic and moral compass than other college bound students. The academy requirements for discipline, hard work, and honor are actually attractive to committed Christians rather than simply being tolerated. For that reason (and possibly others) USAFA may have a larger percentage of committed Christians than other universities. That very fact rankles some people and the media are alert to complaints of that nature. Will you be uncomfortable at USAFA if you are not a Christian? The fact is, everyone at USAFA is uncomfortable, for multiple reasons, most of the time. It's designed that way and for a purpose. Cadets have to get over being thin-skinned about things before they become active duty officers rather than afterwards. That's one of the things that makes USAFA special. The media will never understand that, nor will they try to. Will Christians harass you at the academy? Yes, and so will everyone else.

USAFA tries to be one of the most politically correct places around. We are always under the media microscope. My AMT (NCO that helpes oversee the Squadron) will correct himself after saying "Christmas Break" and change it to "December winter holiday break." Most people don't try to force their views on others (except in military matters). If you can't take an unintentional insult, I would reconsidder comming here. There will always be unitentional insults and misunderstandings; sometimes they are blown out of proportion (which has happened a few times, from what I have heard).

Raimus, your sarcasm makes me laugh. Do 3rd class cadets act as cadre at BCT?

No 3rd class cadets train you during BCT. Only 2 digs and firsties.

That was meant as more understatement than sarcasm...oh well. From what I have heard, the "Christian pressure" scandal was at least part misunderstanding.

What do you mean about the third class cadets training basic cadets during BCT?

He said 3rd Digs do not train during bct.

However 3 digs will train you in your squadron a lot...

Yes, that's true..
