Questions from a gap year girl

Hey all. First of all, congrats to all the new acceptees! So I was accepted to Barnard last year and deferred my admission to participate in a gap year program in Israel, which I am currently on. Now that the end of my year is drawing near, I realized I know nothing about what I am supposed to do this summer to get ready for Barnard. So here are my questions for current Barnard students/moms and dads/anyone else who has a clue:

Is Barnard going to start notifying me of things or should I contact them first?

Am I getting an adviser this summer? When do I choose my classes?

Is there anything else I need to do?? My mom is taking care of the financial stuff, but is there any other paperwork I need to do?

Thanks to everyone!

I don’t have direct experience with gap years, but here is what I would advise:

-For your own peace of mind, I should think it would be absolutely fine to contact the admissions office and ask what happens from here out;

-As for advisors, I would assume that they would treat you like any other incoming first-year and you will receive a packet of info with class choices and such listed. There are on-campus sessions you can sign up for during the summer or you can chose a phone advising session (which is what my d had to do).

Just ask the admissions office what you need to do. That would be your best bet. And congrats to you for what I know must have been an AMAZING gap year experience.

Best to you on becoming a Barnard student!!! Enjoy!
