Questions Hotchkiss

My daughter got accepted at Hotchkiss for 9th grade. I have a couple of questions. Thanks!

  1. How do dorm arrangements work?

  2. We are from overseas. We’ve never been to the campus. So I am wondering if there will be an orientation or opening ceremony for parents to attend in September?

With the caveat that my last Hotchkiss student graduated last year (so things could have changed) –

  1. Your daughter will be assigned a dorm room in an underclass dorm, but you won’t know which dorm until about a week before arriving. Cannot remember when you find out about roommates.

  2. I don’t suppose you are able to attend a revisit day? That’s when they have quite a program for parents and kids. At drop off I do not remember any ceremony; there may be something for the parents, but if there is, it is not long. It will be designed to separate you from your child, not to provide an introduction to the school.

The Admissions department could probably help answer these questions for you.

Thank you for the information. Unfortunately, we are not able to attend a revisit day.

Thanks.

Of course, @happy1 is right, the school itself will be the best source of info.

I wanted to add that with covid, there weren’t any indoor gatherings of parents at all. And there were staggered drop off times, so everyone wasn’t all arriving at the same time. Who knows what the Fall of 2022 will look like – and I am certain the achool does not know, and therefore does not have its arrival schedule known at this time.

Edited my post since I just saw yours!

Just hope there is a small reception on the day of “drop off”. It would be nice to meet my daughter’s advisor or dorm parents. Looking forward to seeing more information from the school later

Thanks everyone for the advice!

It was the same the setting as @cinnamon1212 described for incoming prep students in the Fall 21.

You will be able to meet door parents at the drop-off and most likely to Zoom with the advisor before drop-off ( that’s our experience from this year’s drop-off. Of course, the Covid situation during Fall 22 may change it all).

Just write the admissions department with your questions. I must have written it 20 times before my family made its final decision on April 10. If the admissions representative couldn’t answer my question himself, he always found someone who could.

That would be nice.

Thanks for your info!
