Questions - incoming 9th graders at Andover

My DD is going to be a 9th grade boarding student at Andover and I have a few questions:

  1. For those families that are not driving distance to the school do you ship most of the items to the school prior to first day? Or do you pack everything and take it with you?
  2. On the 1st day of registration do parents help students move their things in and then leave right away?

Thank you !

  1. I live driving distance away, however I have many friends that just bought everything in suitcases, and bought some of the bigger appliances after coming to Andover. There is a CVS and a Staples close buy, so people sometimes bought those big plastic drawer shelves, comfortable office chairs, fans(a MUST!), etc. sometime during the year, and then held then in a storage unit in the Andover area over the summer. Most people will accumulate many things as the year goes on, so you could probably do with just a couple of big suitcases.
  2. Parents will generally leave at the end of the first day of orientation, however there are several events going on throughout the day, so you will not only help students move in, but also have a couple of other things to attend to.

Thanks so much @MABlue for your responses.

MODERATOR’S NOTE:
Your DD has already asked a variation of this question. Let’s have one question per family please. Further responses can be added to the original link,
