questions: languages, philosophy, music scene

I'm applying to Skidmore, and I probably should have asked these questions a while ago, but ah well, here I am asking them now.

-does anyone knows anything about Skidmore's language programs in general...? I'm not sure what language(s) I want to take, so any info. would be nice.

-how about philosophy--classes or the major?

-Also, I've gathered that there's a bit of a music scene on campus, but only from books. Do people see live music? is there lots out there?

Any responses, detailed or otherwise, would be great!

i am applying also and i have looked into the languages. they have classes in many of the normal languages, spanish german and chinese (i think). and they also have a great program which is teaching yourself. you get tapes and meet with a teacher each week. Personally i am studying portuguese and although they do not have a formal class, they do have one of the teach yourself programs which is more than many other colleges.

a good idea would be to take a look at the course catalog and/or master schedule (<a href="http://www2.skidmore.edu/MasterSchedule/)%5B/url%5D">http://www2.skidmore.edu/MasterSchedule/)</a>. many of the more common languages (french, italian, spanish, chinese, german, japanese) are taught, with many others in a self-instructed style (arabic, hebrew, korean, portuguese, russian).

again, i'd check out the master schedule/catalog for philosophy info, as well as Skidmore College: Philosophy and Religion Home

there is a good-sized music scene; however i find that most of the bands are either more indie, local, or student bands... though that obviously does not mean that they aren't good, which they are. there are concerts every thursday and/or friday nights at falstaffs, and bigger shows (a few in the small gym, one in the large gym) bring artists like soulive, rjd2, of montreal, broken social scene (this april), etc. there are also numerous concerts put on by the orchestra, as well as many visiting classical artists (i just saw the manhattan string quartet), performances by faculty (wide variety of styles/instruments), etc etc.
