Ok, In ALG 2 AB. Have a solid A. Hasn't been 1 problem all year on a test I havent known how to do (only stupid errors).

Next year I want to take AP stat, as thats the only math AP you can take as a junior. How hard is it coming from Alg 2. We will finish with trig identities probably. We just did conics, finishing logs.

I know it is possible, but how big of a burden is AP stat? I really want to take as many ap's as possible. Will the transition be too difficult from alg2?

Easy, AP Stats is one of the easier AP classes.

AP Stat is a very easy class. I honestly think that I did not learn a single new thing during first semester. All you really need to do is simple math, plugging crap into your calculator, reading the word problem and extracting info and interpreting the result. All of which can be done easily without any difficulty if you took Algebra 2 before. I would say go for it, AP stat is a joke and have a chill period in your junior schedule.

My situation was similar to yours, except I was in the normal Alg class(so many topics in stats were uncovered such as summation). I find stats very easy for the most part, its a class where repetition and regurgitation are assets. If the rigor of your Alg II class was decent in your opinion( in other words if you think that you a solid math student independent of good grades in a course) then you should take it because the most advance techniques i can remember is manipulation of variables and solving for variables e.g. x=24y solve for y: y=x/24. obviously its a more complicated but thats the gist of the class.

I decided im gonna take it, that is, if my teacher allows me.

I’m in AP Stat. I’m really quite bad at it and it’s the only B in my high school career (A’s in apush, ap bio, ap psych, etc.). I think it’s just cause my teacher is awful though. There are only three A’s in the class and two are going to MIT, the third to Pomona.

All I’m saying is its not as easy as everyone says it is. And I am a pretty typical CCer with a high SAT score and what not.

You’re not going to have any problems because AP Stats is like 95% dealing with real numbers like 5.7 or 14.52 instead of variables like x and y. You just have to know how to use the formulas.

@semaphore12 just don’t forget that the other 5% is…

puts sunglasses on

…statistically significant.

LEEEGO

I took algebra 2 last year and am now taking precalc and ap stats as a junior. It is easy to get a B in a little difficult to get an A

AP stats is extremely easy. Basically you learn about the normal curve, different ways of approaching it (confidence intervals, hypothesis testing) and you’re done with the course.

Okay, I was being a little too simplistic (you learn about other things such as z- and t-tests, binomial, geometric, Poisson distributions) but still the course is very easy.

It’s definitely manageable if you’ve already taken Algebra II. In fact, my school just opened it up this year so that students can take Alg II and AP Stats at the same time; while I obviously can’t say anything about their AP grades since it’s yet to come, none of them seem to have a problem with the class or the exams. Overall, stats is relatively easy and just great as long as you have a decent teacher(:
