Questions on dorms at Lincoln Center

Can the beds in the dorms at Lincoln Center campus be raised by using those things you put on the bottom of the bed posts?

In furnishing the dorm room initially, is there anywhere around the campus to stock up on paper goods and cleaning supplies? Like a Target, Wal-mart, or any of those warehouse super stores? I imagine it must get pricey to have to buy those items in nearby grocery stores.

Any tricks that a first time dorm resident should know?

Thanks. Trying to plan for when we bring our daughter up in late August. We live in Florida so we're flying up and won't be able to bring lots of stuff with us on the airplane, and it doesn't seem to make much sense to ship up boxes of supplies.

Actually just left Fordham, but I did spend a year at the LC campus, so to answer your questions…
The beds can be raised.
There is nothing like a Target or Wal-mart nearby. I think we found out that the nearest target was out in queens. You’d probably be best shipping things from FL or buying them in Jersey and driving back into the city, if possible.
Otherwise, have fun in the city!

Hey i’m an incoming freshman from CA at LC too, so I have some of the same problems you do. There is a bed bath and beyond only like 5 streets up (its really close…) and you can shop online and say you will pick them up at whatever location (and youd obviously say the location in NYC while youre shopping online from FL). Thats where we’re aiming to get alot of cleaning supplies, organization stuff, etc. Theres an ikea down on 16th, and yeah target is in brooklyn or jersey city.

If you find any places I havent really thought of, just post em! It’ll be such a help.

We will be going to our local Bed Bath and Beyond and ordering stuff then picking them up when we get to NYC in August, but stuff at Target and Wal-Mart is so much cheaper! Plus, like for furnishing the room initially, paper towels, toilet paper, cleaning supplies, brooms, mops, etc., don’t know if BB&B has that stuff, but there must be somewhere cheaper that locals shop at, no? If anyone knows, please let us know!

Regarding paper towels, cleaning supplies, etc. There’s a Duane Reade about a block away from LC on 10th and 60th that carries most of the household items.
