questions on fly-ins and accepted days

Kiddo applied to a couple of fly-in programs. I don’t think he’ll be accepted (we make too much), but it has me wondering about the logistics and experiences of college-sponsored visitation programs. I was hoping some parents who sent kids on these programs could share their experiences.

With a fly-in program, does the college also provide transportation from the airport/train station to campus, or do they just give the kid instructions on how to get there with public transportation and figure that the kid should be smart enough to navigate?

Do the kids have to bring a sleeping bag and end up sleeping on the floor, or are they generally on a couch/in a bed?

Is their time thoroughly programmed or is there an opportunity to wander the campus and relax in common spaces?

The college provides transport - in my kid’s situation, there were shuttle buses running from the airport to the campus. She brought a sleeping bag, and ended up sleeping on the floor (in 2 instances), and in the other slept on top of a bed in her sleeping bag (lol). Time is pretty programmed, but there’s some flexibility for wandering the campus.

^^ Generally speaking my D had the same experience. In one case though she was instructed to take a cab from/to the airport and was reimbursed.
