Here's the deal i got a 3.53 (will be higher after this fall semester). I'll have igetc completed as well as Tap by the time i transfer. If i'm missing one class for my major prep, do i still got a chance to get into ucla and berkeley? My major is philosophy and I'll be missing symbolic logic.

hey there,

here's some info regarding transfers to UCB with stats.
http://students.berkeley.edu/files/Admissions/Transfer_06.pdf

I think GPAs of at least 3.5 have a chance there.

let's say i got it up to a 3.7, you think I'm competitive enough for Berkeley or LA? given the aforementioned? I know missing one prep class is crucial but would it negate my acceptance?

I'm not sure about the two UCs' agreements with CCCs because Im intercampus. You should contact their admissions offices.

I think it may affect your chances but I doubt it will nullify your application. I would certainly give 3.7 a chance. I know some intercampus transfers (from UCD,) with 3.6-3.7 who have been accepted by UCB.

well, if you're applying this november, it might be a little difficult to go from a 3.5 (ish) to a 3.7 unless you plan to take many classes and pull off a stellar semester. its amazing how little straight a's in five classes can booste your gpa (ha, i know).

remember that when applying, the only grades that are considered are all transferable classes up to the time you apply, as well as the grades you update online once the fall/winter semester/quarter are completed. the grades you receive in the spring prior to the fall transfer only need to be up to par with university standards (for UCB, you must maintain a semester gpa of 3.0 in the spring, UCLA may not follow this same guideline). You receive notification of your admission status in the middle of your spring semester, so that makes sense.

i think you have a shot, just rock that personal statement. good luck!

<3,

Izzie Bear

Philosophy at Ucla doesn't have a terribly high average gpa. I know several people who got in with ~3.4 and TAP. Lacking one lower division probably won't harm your chances.

usually, UC's ask you to take that missing class over the summer at a CC that offers it. not big deal, just apply.
