Does anyone know if siblings are given an admissions advantage/bump upward as legacies (or an admissions advantage/ bump upward as just siblings) at Hamilton? Either way, would it matter if the sibling that is already attending Hamilton is doing academically very well or not at Hamilton? If the sibling who is already at Hamilton is not doing well there, would that actually hurt admissions chances? (The sibling already there is currently only a freshman, so we don’t know how they will fare academically, but are wondering about this, “just in case”.) If it matters: The younger sibling is currently a high school junior, so would be applying for admission to Hamilton at the time the older sibling is attending as a Hamilton sophomore. And the siblings will present as quite different in interests pursued during high school as well as quite different in likely future major and career direction than one another, although they are the same sex.
Would you like a guess?
A sibling relationship should be enough to get a qualified student extra admissions consideration without the uncertainty that can impact even highly qualified applicants who lack ties to Hamilton.
On the latter part of your question, I’d say that the academic performance of the older sibling could be important, but more so as a solid example of a student from that HS than as a sibling per se.
Thank you, @merc81 . The sibling currently already a student at Hamilton actually only attended the same high school for just one year (grade 9), that is the high school the new applicant sibling is attending for all four years (grades 9-12). So, then, I assume that would probably leave any comparison between them to , mostly, just their sibling status…UNLESS they would think that grade 9 performance means a lot when looking at student examples from a HS. Guesses are welcome. Thank you, again!!
