Questions regarding orientation

With orientation dates soon to be announced for Fall 2010, I was wondering if it's worth it for an out of state student to make an extra trip to UCF to go to an earlier orientation, rather than wait until right before classes start, as is standard, I assume, for most out of state students. We're just concerned that the class selection won't be great if others have an almost two month jump start on registering. Also, we've paid the housing deposit, since that is partially refundable, but have yet to pay the non refundable enrollment fee since we're waiting to hear from other colleges. Do you have to pay the enrollment fee before you can sign up for orientation?

yes you have to pay the enrollment fee- we are from PA and are waiting for UF but we also did housing right away- My son s going for Summer so we are going to orientation in end of may: I heard thatthe classes dont fill up but call them; where are you from?

Yes, I’ll give them a call to see if they have any idea how quickly things fill up. We won’t find out about D’s last two colleges she’s waiting on until April; so far 5 for 5, with UCF a strong favorite. (From NY, btw).

From what I remember from when D went to Orientation 2 days before Summer 2009 move-in: They hold seats for new Orientation dates, so on the 2nd day of Orientation around 1pm, new slots open up for most classes. Since Summer is basically 2 courses, D was able to get an English class (ENC) and an intro to her major. She also was able to sign up for Fall classes (before the Fall orientation students) and was even able to tweak her Fall schedule all summer, which was a plus!

If you’re talking about Orentation for Summer, definately sign up for the last Orientation. It saves alot of hassle moving in and you can get a feel for the campus before classes start. Also sign up for early move-in, only available to those taking Orientation the last week before school starts. D was able to move in on Wednesday, had Orientation on Thursday and Friday (and met alot of other new freshman) and by Saturday she was helping her roommate move-in. By Sunday everyone was settled (after a few dozen trips to Target and Best Buy for last minute items), and she was ready to start classes on Monday.

my son is going to summer B and we are from Philadelphia-0 so we should go to orientation on june 24/25- classses start the 28th. Then maybe he an move in when he has orientation?

We are from Cherry Hill, NJ. My daughter is presently a freshman. She did Summer Session this past summer. She attended Orientation the two days prior to the start of classes (Thursday and Friday) where she registered for classes for both fall and summer. We did early move-in on Wednesday afternoon and her roomate, who was from Florida moved in on Saturday. It was great to have had the room to herself to move in early as the rooms are a little small and hard to move two people in at the same time. Once her roomate moved in she spent the weekend with her and was all set to go for the summer. She has been there ever since and loving it. Of course the only hassle is that you have to move out after summer session, store all your belongings for two weeks and then move back into the fall dorms. If you plan on renting a storage unit for those two weeks, I would suggest renting early because they rent out fast.
